it is real easy, at brake pedal disconnect brake switch get a 14mm wrench, loosen up the nut, spin the switch out,,,,,,,,,,when installing it make sure that the plunger touches the pedal and is partially pushed in the switch , tightem the 14mm nut , make sure brake lites come on when u push on brakes and be off when brakes not applied ,,

93 Accord

Yes, it is pretty simple ... however, I am having a small issue.

DesertHonda, you said to make sure the peddle arm pushes the plunger. On my car, there appears to be a small hole on the peddle arm so that when the brake peddle comes back, the plunger goes into the hole (nearly a perfectly centered fit) and the plunger is never depressed even though the brake peddle arm is resting against the threaded bolt surrounding the plunger. What do I need to do to offset either the plunger or the arm so that the plunger doesn't hit the hole?

I pulled the switch out and while depressing the plunger, the lights definitely go out. When I am not depressing the plunger, they are on. As I said though, with everything screwed into place, the plunger never hits the arm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Never mind, I jury-rigged a solution.

For anyone else who might have this problem. There is a small rubber plug that would normally fill the hole I referred to in my previous post. I looked around on the floorboard of my car and found it. It has one pointed side and one flatter side. Best I can tell, the pointed end would normally depress the brake light switch plunger. This plastic/rubber plug has sheared off in my car.

My jury rig consisted of a small bolt and nut. The bolt head is just large enough to cover the hole in the brake peddle arm. Then I just tightened the nut from the back side. I will have to try to find a locking washer because I am sure it will come loose otherwise. Anyway, for now the head of the bolt will depress the switch plunger enough to cut power to the brake lights.

Cheers,
JC

Hey....'Good on You'. I've seen that exact problem several times, and even saw a car that still had that plastic button in the pedal arm, but with a hole thru it.
Glad you got this problem figured out.
