I want to replace my rear speakers in my 2000 gsr with some 6x9's. Can i do that or just drill holes right below the rear window on that board thing lol

 

i just cut out holes in the wood trunk cover thing and screwed in my 6x9s. spliced them with the other rears, and BAM. youre good to go.

Um, wow. Honestly, since the rear speakers only provide fill, theres little to no point in changing out the 6 1/2 speakers to 6x9. Just get some good front speakers, an amp or 2, and drop a nice sub in the trunk if you're looking for more bass. Just my 2 cents.

depends on how you set it up, i dont like subwoofers myself, extra weight, gets more attention which leads to things being stolen. i would say swap the components in the front, add some components to the rear door and do 6x9's on the rear deck

 

Ya, im putting in some visonik subs(anyone every try these before?) and was wondering is it worth swapping the rear speakers for the new ones or just adding the new ones in. Whats the power handleing on the stock speakers?

If you splice speakers then you are essentially splitting the wattage going to the speakers in two. also, you're splitting the resistance from 4 Ohms to 2 Ohms on each speaker...which unless they're Infinity Kappas or any other 2 Ohm stable speaker...they will not sound like their true potential...

Bass is 50% of your sound, if you're looking for more, a subwoofer system is the best way. I've got one 12" MTX subwoofer in a small truck box with an MTX 250W amp. The small size of the box gives me the really tight bass for the music i listen to (Alternative and rock). In all it weighs less than 35 lbs.

 

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but i want to take out the speakers in my rear doorcards, whats the best way to get these off?

i totally agree.. what you SHOULD do if you want a good sound system is.. get QUALITY components for the fronts, kick panel enclosures with QUALITY components for the kicks.. good amplifiers with enough power to supply the 2 sets of components.. have NO rears and get a good 12 inch sub and a GOOD BOX.. anyone who knows sound knows that a shitty sub in a great box sounds better than a great sub in a shitty box.. and get a monoblock amp to power that.. you tune the stereo right and you will have so much crisp clear sound you wont know what to do with yourself..
