Default B18B swap

I'm looking to put a B18B in my 93 DX hatch. What I need to know is, what generation engine to I drop in? Will any B18B from a 93-2000 or so Integra work? Is my car OBD1 or 2. Do I have to put in something with OBD1 or 2. Yes, these are very basic questions. I am a noob when it comes to the electronics of a car, but I can handle the mechanics. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks.

Did OBDII come out during the 1996+ years? And if so, will I be safe buying a 93-95 Integra motor and dropping that in my 93 Civic hatch?

I've tried doing some searching, but I'm kinda stumped on what more to search for.

Will a B18B drop in with the stock tranny it comes with? I was reading that they are the longest of the B series trannies. Do I need a special mount kit, or will the stock B18 mounts fit properly? How about drive shafts. I'm looking to keep the swap as pain free as possible. Does that mean I should stick with a cable clutch, and cable tranny?

Does anyone have links to anything that runs through most of the parts I'd be needing? Thanks.

So far I've found this one,
http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...p.php

Pretty informative, but I could use some more details.

you will need some mounts..u can get prolly get away with using some of your civics..your going to need rear T bracket and lower tranny bracket...the motor will drop in fine, and you will need upper driver mount, your car is a hydro trans...so the motor u will be getting it comes with a hydro trans 94 and up and as for axels, your will need the b series axles and drive shaft

Thanks for going easy.

So wait, SPNFEDEJ, you're saying my D15B7 has a hydro tranny? Are you positive?

RaYnE, are you saying my tranny is a cable tranny?

I always thought it was cable.

B18B has the longest gears, lol. Here I thought it was the physical size of the case. Wow, I will learn a LOT during my swap and research for the swap.

92 and up civics are hydro trans...i have a civic so i should know..and i'm doing a 99 LS swap and as for the longer gear RATIO in the LS isn't not that great unless your going boost...if your going all motor then your going to want shorter gears which are the GSR and B16 trannys, type r trannys the gear ratios are shorter

^^ like what he said, don't forget you also need the b18 shift linkage, tranny bracket, ECU, and 94+ del sol radiator hoses or custom fab hoses. Hope this helps. LMK if you need anything else.

Thank you very much everyone for the kind responses and excellent answers. This has made things much easier.

I'm planning to go all motor for the first season, and then boost it after that.

you can run any generation you want as long as you don't live in cali (then same year or newer). You can always convert engine sensors and actuators to plug into your harness and make it work. Look around for deal. To get the most of the swap I highly suggest getting a shorter tranny (unless you wonna boost alot). GSR or shorter (aka SI, ITR is little bit too short for everyday driving). Try to stay away from b18a1 engines I know that their IM flow bad, and head flows worse (either because of cams or the head design).

I came across this site, which said a 94-95 B18b is an easy swap into my EG, while 96-01 are harder. Is this mainly because of the OBD2-OBD1 conversion that is required?

http://www.civicland.com/forum...c=149

Are those the only differences?

During this conversion process, what will need to be done? Are there adapters that are plug and play as far as the harness goes? Or will I have to do some cutting and splicing?

no don't get that. Just use a an obdI LS ecu, and convert your dizzy to obd I or just trade somebody for an OBDI dizzy.

actually I could trade you, lol.

I have a 2001 LS motor that I want to buy. Comes with everything, ecu, shafts, tranny, dizzy, etc.

I'm going to be needing a ecu and dizzy from the 95 and earlier years?

yeah I would just suggest doing that. You could either trade somebody for yours, or buy new ones and sell the obdI ones.

OBDI is chippable and can be used with uberdata, and so on. either way it's better

ECU yes. Dizzy no.
Let me see if you'll understand this in one fell swoop.
Use the OBD2 wiring-harness from engine to shock tower. From shock tower to ECU use the OBD1 harness from your old motor. The harness's will plug right in no problem. Use an obd1 ECU. Thats it. no need for a dizzy.

you could do that if he got the harness. He could also convert his dizzy to obdI.
