Default Tranny leak(axel) gm synchromesh

Ok two days ago I put the Gm Synchromesh tranny fluid in my transmission. Which I have to say has worked wonders. It lubricates it so much that all of my grinds have disappeared. Well now I have another problem (go figure), as of today I have a slow leak out of my cv axel of the tranny fluid. It leaks where the axel goes into the transmission. How do I stop this and why is it happening? I imagine its happening because the gm synchromesh is much thiner than honda mtf. But its leaking in the wierdest place. How do I stop the leak around the axel where it joins the transmission. Exactly where he is inserting the crow bar in the picture is where I am getting the fluid leak. Any help would be very greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!!

Stupid question but is the axel all the way in? Take a pic of the axel going into the tranny.

you dont need a picture, its a black seal that goes into the tranny where the axles is, it seals around the outer diameter of the axle and the tranny case.

You can get it from a local parts store for dirt cheap, get it for the Model transmission you have.

Is it hard to get out. I bet its my problem because I've never replaced them. Theres one for both axels correct? Can I just use a screw driver and pry them out? Thanks

This happened to me when I swapped my engine... Its called a differential oil seal, and neither Advance, or the Autozone carries the right one (or atleast my local ones)... Best bet is to get it from Honda... They are cheap, probably about $5 probably less... I say they cuz I got both sides, but you may just need one side... The 2 sides are different aswell, one is larger...

Its number 10 that you need in this diagram...

As for installing them, it took me about 30 minutes cuz I was still familiar with removing the axle from my swap... But basically, drain the fluid (into a clean bucket so u can reuse it), then just remove the axle from the tranny, and leave it on the hub, detatch the hub/spindle as much as u can, and pull the axle out of the tranny... Lube up the seal, slap it back in... Put the axle back in, and refill the fluid...

Just for the sake of clarity, I've got the part number for the driver's-side axle seal:

Honda Part Number 91205-PL3-A01 is the CORRECT axle seal (35mm inner diameter) for the driver's side of the CRX DX/Si transmission.

I point this out because I've had two local dealerships give me the wrong axle seal in the past. I've also received the wrong seal from both Majestic Honda and San Leandro Honda when ordering online. Apparently, the Honda parts database (and their printed parts catalogs as well) have the wrong part number listed; they list the part as 91205-PL3-B01, and that's what they usually give you when you just ask for the seal for a '90-'91 Si. It's the wrong part - it's got a 40mm inner diameter, and will let all your transmission fluid just flow out like water!

For getting the seals out, a screwdriver has always worked fine for me. Just be careful not to nick or scratch the hole the seal fits in... or it won't seal!

Mike

That actually explains alot... I had serious problems finding the right one when I did mine... Luckily Majestic sent me the correct one the first time...

thanks I'll check my part numbers. I ordered from Rockauto.com They usually ship me the right parts (well most of the time). Anyways last night I was taking the seals out and they wouldnt just come out. They literally tore apart into 100's of little rubber pieces. Thanks for all the help. Did anyone else have this problem with them crumbiling when they tried taking there seal out?
