Default wreck, rebuild questions

a lady made a left hand turn infront of me, right at the last minute, and my friend was riding in the lane right next to me so i had nowhere to go, i Tboned her rear quarter panel doing about 50mph and flew over her car into the intersection landing on my back. minor cuts and bruses only, w/ a bigger cut on my shin that needed stitches.

she has no ins or anything, so that'll be a fun story for later, but on to the bike.

forks bent, front wheel twisted over, front fairing and headlight destroyed. the bike was on until my friend turned it off in the street. one frame slider was bent back slightly, and oil was dripping from that area (i'm never putting frame sliders on another bike i own ever again) so i think that's where the oil's coming from. the tank wasnt touched, the tail was scraped up a bit. i just got it back and running in my garage, only turning it on for about 15 seconds or so b/c not much oil is left in it right now. but either way, none of the covers were broken, oil isnt leaking out of that frameslider bolt area anymore(prolly b/c there isnt any to leak) but white smoke is pouring out of the exhaust (headgasket?) and it spued oil about 15 feet into the parking lot, just spraying it out of the exhaust. ...

ideas? questions? concerns? ... PLEASE HELP thx

I know you said that she does not have insurance, but do YOU have insurance? If you do, do you have un-insured motorist coverage?

What bike?

Forks can be straightened, depends how bad they are. Same with wheels. What I would do is take it to a motoliner rig and get it checked. You will have to leave the engine in for this. If it is straight or can be straightened then work on the engine issues. Most big 4 strokes wont get hurt runinng out of oil at idle speeds but dont trun it up for the sake of it. Smoke could be oil in the pipe. Change the oil and filter then run it up and see if it clears.

I take it the disks are gone, calipers ok? If you have clocks gone you are starting to look at a bit of a sad deal. Things can be salvaged, depends on what you want to spend on it, I would turn it into a track bike.

Good luck

Motorcycle insurance is optional but car insurance is not optional here, so did she get a ticket for the accident and for no insurance?

If she couldnt afford insurance I don't think you will be able to get much out of her if you win a lawsuit.

As suggested have the frame/forks etc checked by a certified motorcycle frame shop. If the forks bent and the frame is aluminum it could have damaged the steering neck of the frame. Depending on what is damaged and how bad, you may be better off parting it out and buying yourself another bike.

Sorry for the bad luck.

get your frame checked since it sounded like a pretty ugly crash. It could be bent without looking like it

here's a pic of the bike and a pic of my leg before my stitches.

i've already ordered new forks, the old ones look pretty twisted. the wheel looks fine, and the frame LOOKS fine, again i agree that i cant be completely sure by just looking at it.

she definately got cited for being at fault, but i dont know about the ins. all i know is that after calling her she says she doesnt have it. so i'm calling a lawyer.

The forks dont look that bad, honestly. I dont think the frame will have gone, but I would have it checked. You will soon find out about the wheel, take it to a tyre place and get them to balance it. I was expecting much worse. Get those forks straightened, or you can even buy new inners.

Looks pretty good.

the forks are worse than they look in that pic, the handlebars are all the way left and the wheel points straight/off to the right. one of the forks is pushing against the rotor on that side of the wheel.

yeah everyone who sees it is like "holy crap, you hit a car going how fast, tboned into the side, flew over it, and the bike wasnt ripped to shreads and all you got was a nice cut on your leg?"

I am used to seeing bikes with the front wheel where the rear wheel should be. You got away with the rad and the clocks which is cool.
