Sleeper Tach
Where can I find a nice, inconspicuous tach for my 90 h/b std? I'm dropping in a b16 and as we all know the std didn't come with a stock tach. However, I don't want people looking over and seeing the ridiculous ricer tach sitting above my instrument cluster.
Um, how accurate do you need it? I wouldn't use it to regulate life support, but its good enough for driving.
There is a writeup for installing a newer Civic Si/CRV/GSR cluster floating around here someplace.
I say just install a frickin 88-91 CRX Si cluster with a tach and be done with it.

By all means...and I won't assume you are too stupid or lazy to find something yourself.

i used a 2.5 inch tach from sunsport or something on my old ej....worked just fine and i had it placed within the cover for the cluster so it was in my direct view when i was driving and could not be seen from outside
How is any tach cheaper and less effort than the factory Si cluster? I got mine out of a junkyard for $5 and it works perfectly in my 88 Hatch Std that had no factory tach, but the one I found works fine without modification or additional hardware. It was a 5 minute swap, and I still kept my original Speedo/Odo to keep the miles the same. Too much effort for too little gain and alot of "look at me" flash with an aftermarket part that you might not want if you are building a sleeper. The only reason I would reccomend an aftermarket tach is if you are getting the CTR motor and built it to go 10k rpm and want a watchdog for it. The Si goes to 8 or 9k and would be perfect for a SiR I B16. Check EBAY for it, they are always there for like $20 (granted some people always overcharge for Honda parts on ebay), or just go check your local junkyards, they are around to be had VERY inexpensively.
If you would like you could go the same route I am with my next EF. I'm gonna hide an autometer shiftlight in the center vent. It will be one with the "pills" as they call them which are preset for a certain rpm for the shiftlight to go off. I was gonna do that and keep a STD gauge cluster so it will keep the sleeper look but yet it will still be accurate.
you could get one of those sequentials. 70 bucks.

Dang, lol. Yea the shift light idea or the apexi rev/speed meter (pretty accurate) seem to be the best choice to me, thats is if u want to retain your stock cluster.
