Y21 VSS drive gear. Need hAlp!

Y21 VSS drive gear. Need hAlp!

Okay, my friend has a 92 Si with a 2nd gen B16 and a JDM Y21 tranny... Recently his spedo stopped working and he didn't know what to do. So we replaced the VSS and that wasn't the problem. Turns out it is the drive gear that the gear on the VSS attaches to, the one in the tranny.
SO, he starts looking for ones that match up and it looks like all the USDM VSS drive gears are too big, they are something like 22mm while the JDM one is 16-17. And the USDM ones are made out of a different material too.
Does anyone know anything about this? He called around all the importers in Toronto and no one wanted to seperate the part from a tranny, they only wanted to sell him a whole tranny.
Any help would be very much appriciated.
