NOPI should thank the NHRA - NOT!
Here's the latest i've heard
One of NOPI most successful events (VMP Virginia) has been ripped right out from under them by the NHRA. Apparently the NHRA brought their Powerade series to VMP and in the the negotiations made VMP have the NHRA Sport Compact Series on the weekend that NOPI had their highly successful event. NOPI has been barred from ever having another event there. It's nice to know that the NHRA is really looking out for the sport compact competitor and crowd by hijacking other company's successful events since they can't seem to grow any on their own. I probably wasn't susposed to say anything but this really pissed me off.
I also heard NOPI will be still be going to Virginia that same weekend with another big event to be held nearby. The car show portion of the Virginia event is huge so they will just have it somewhere else and maybe add another kind of racing to that event.

wow I am speachless, I really don't know what to say other than poor sportsmanship like conduct here. wow!
now that things are unfolded, hopefully NDRA can work something out that will favor everyone. Also maintianing the NHRA poweraid event.

That's shitty.
I know there was a post about "how the import scene started" or something like that a while back where one of the sanctioning body's (NHRA??) screwed BOTI???? I couldn't find it through the search though.

NOPI runs such a better race than NHRA ever has. Also, NHRA could care less about the racers or their feelings. NOPI does alot for the racers that support them, and they try to give them as much publicity as possible. Everyone at NOPI are such good people, unlike the NHRA Sport Compact officials. There are a few, very few guys over at NHRA that would even be worth mentioning. Hopefully NOPI keeps going, and puts NHRA under the table. NHRA (National Hates Racers Association).

NHRA sucks anyway. They just proved that they care nothing about the racers, our concerns or the sport (if this is true). NOPI is where it's at and I'll continue to support them.

There's been past instances where it was questionable as to NHRA's full intention with our sport, but this news just fuggin takes the cake. Hope everything works out.

you guys are insane. the sport compact stuff had nothing to do with nhra coming to dinwiddie. since my pops only lives a few miles from that track he told me about this a few months ago and as i understand it VMP went to nhra asking to get there sanction back and bring a powerade event back to town.
and as far as not letting nopi come back, well thats business. dont think for a second nopi wouldnt do the same to nhra if they had the power to do it.
bottom line is nopi and nhra are about making $, and they will do what they have to to make it.

You guys are crazy!!! From a spectators standpoint, I would rather watch 300mph 4 second (side by side) drag racing than watch Gary Gardella DESTROY a 8 car feild.
There are plenty of races on the east coast. I could be worse...you could live in Texas.

It's got nothing to do with the Powerads events. There are Powerade events at most facilities NOPI goes to. The issue is the fact that they used the Powerade event to insert their Sport Compact series where NOPI has had good success and had NOPI kicked out in the process. NOPI was trying to grow the market and put on good events. The better their events, the more interest there is in the whole sport compact world. That helps all sanctiooning bodies. Seems NHRA don't give a crap about that, they just want to capitalize on what NOPI has done in the Virginia area as far as sport compact events go.
and guess what before nopi was around battle used to put on a huge event there. in this northeast area around md/ va/ nj it dosnt really matter who it is there will always be good events put on.
you acting like nopi is perfect themselves and hasnt shunned away alot of racers. a quick car count is all you need to see whats going on.

I am not even going to chime in on this as far as the NHRA is concerned. I will however ask you a few questions Brent Webb.
How did we force BOTI or IDRC or the NHRA out of any track?????
We have'nt, it is not even an issue with us who races at what track. The more races the better, helps the sport and the industry side of things. We try and secure the best possible tracks we can, but there are a few we are not allowed to go to because of thier ownership.
How have we shunned away alot of racers??????
Have you not noticed that everywhere the car counts are down?????
It is not just the NDRA, it is everywhere. Take out NJ, and Florida and the car counts are no where near what they were 2-3 years ago.
I will not apologize for anything that may of happened with rules or anything like that this season, but I will ask you What is your problem with the NDRA????
It seems like for the last season you have had your butt on your shoulders when at an NDRA event, so I will ask again, What is your problem with the NDRA????
Like I said earlier, I will not comment on the current situation with VMP and the NHRA, buisness is buisness and we do not discuss stuff like that on forums. Not sure where everyone is getting the rumor mill from, but we will not be at VMP like the previous 4 years on April 22-23.

Pro Car Guy,
I have noticed from your numerous anti-NHRA posts that you have an "issue" with the NHRA and the NHRA Sport Compact Series.
I'm not sure you are "informed" when it comes to the business of securing tracks or even the business of running a sanctioning body.
For the record, NHRA partners with the tracks we attend with the SC Series and NOPI rents the tracks they attend.
I wont go into the details of each financial plan but each track has its own preference for financial reasons.
Now to educate you on some history. VMP used to be an NHRA Sanctioned track a few years back. They then decided to go IHRA and have now decided to return to NHRA.
We are estatic to attend VMP in 2006---VMP is a first class track with a huge fan base. During discussions with VMP they inquired what it would take to get a NHRA SC event at the track. The NOPI event didnt even come up until VMP wanted to see if the "NOPI" April date would work in our schedule.
The NHRA SC Series is a bit handcuffed compared to NOPI when it comes to selecting tracks to attend with the Series. NHRA will only attend NHRA sanctioned tracks. This is a good thing for all racers and fans involved. These track have to live up to the tightest safety rules and be checked each year to make sure the strict NHRA safety rules are met. Are there non-NHRA tracks that NOPI attends that we would like to attend in addition to the tracks we have now? In a word, Yes.
NOPI has the run of the nation in the tracks they can attend--they do not have to worry about who sanctions what track.
We in no way leveraged the POWERade Series at any track to secure a NHRA SC event. If that was the case there are many POWERade tracks that would not run NOPI events--Memphis, St. Louis, Phoenix and Bristol.
Pro Car Guy, I'm not sure what NHRA did to upset you but please feel free to call or email me at any time with any "issues" and/or questions.
Thanks for the time,
Gary Raasch
