Have you ever hit an animal with your bike?
I was just wondering what is was like and what actions you had to take when running over a small animal (i.e. cat, squirrel, etc.)
I almost hit a pheasant the other day. It was near the edge of the road and I was exiting a curve and was on the outside edge.

many times... well at least four times. Rabbits are the culprits here in so cal in the spring time. They are all very small and stupid, so they sit in the middle of the road on a local mountain Hwy. I have seen a car take out a full size deer while riding.
a bird flew into my arm once when i was going about 60mph. wasnt to much fun left a nice bruse. but thats all i remember hitting
Hit a dog on a dirtbike - my own dog nonetheless! Dog was fine, but flipped me over the bars. Caught a handlebar in the gut and grass-stained my face, complete with bloody nose. Actually I guess it wasn't as bad as it could have been, especially since I had no gear on {dumbass}.

my friend wrote his gixxer off hitting a deer, at about 60, it was not nice, but he got a brand new bike once his hands healed.

Guys,
I'm talking about alive stuff, not roadkill. I have to dodge roadkill alot.
It must be a bumper year for Cottontails here because there had to be at least 1000 bunny greasespots on Hwy 20/26 from Shoshoni to Casper.

I hit a possum (SP?) back in 96 doing like 45 mph with someone on the back of a gsxr600. Momentary air and a little headshake. Had to change my underwear but other than that it was fine. Just scared the crap out of me.

I hit a large bug one time doing around 90-110. It was a cicada(sp) dragonfly or something, it could have been a humming bird idk. It slit open my right arm below the shoulder. No stiches but fairly deep. I laughed.

I hit a cat, nearly had me off little fxcker. Rabbits are absolutely obsessed with killing themselves round where I live and I have hit one of them too. If there is any adice it would be to relax, get off the power and try to keep off the brakes, not easy to do. End of the day if a deer walks out in front of you the proceedure would be hit deer, fall off.

When I see deer or antelope on the side of the road I actually beep my little horn at them, and they run away. lol, not kidding.

That article highlights about what I did. I braked as much as possible before hitting the ground hog; rolled on the throttle gently; didn't sit completely on the seat (kinda standing kinda not), I realesed the throttle before the rear wheel hit it. DO NOT TRY TO SWERVE because you will almost surely go down.

Very good article. We learned how to run over a little board in the MSF class but I've always wondered how different a squirrel or cat or something would be . . . Hopefully I won't find out anytime soon. *knocks on wood*
