Default Newbie with Ticking/Clicking sound question

Hey, im new here (obviously)

just got myself a 2000 civic SiR with a JDM civic del sol swap..the engine itseldf has been altered with itr pistons and gsr cams..new transmission...new clutch...i mean the car is in great condition..the thing is..the car runs great..no problems what so ever except for the check engine light comin on occasiionally due to no cat....

my issue is...when i start my car for the first time in the day..my first 5 minutes of driving i experience a ticking/clicking sound on the front drivers side...the ticking seems ONLY appearant when i am gassing...and it increases in speed as the RPM's increase...it doesnt have to be in gear for the ticking to be prevalent...i can coast it in neutral...accelerate some..and hear the ticking...

it stops after 3-5 minutes..and i dont hear it for the rest of the ride..sometimes for the rest of the day..but if the car has been sitting for some good hours and i start it up again..its the same deal...this brings me to believe its a problem with the warm up system..or if its even a problem at all....but i mean..the car is a 2000...not new..but not old at all either...new tranny, clutch, engine...i shouldnt have this kind of odd noise coming from a car in this condition...

the AC unit is out..could this contribute to the ticking?...

iv done some searching online and couldnt find anything..came across this forum and thought'd post in hopes of some informative answers...i hope i was detailed enough to give you guys a good idea of my situation..thanks.

(my knowledge on cars is limited..especially the modding scene..im new..so give me the benefit of the doubt)...

Cheers-

Get a valve adjustment. Since you're engine has higher compression, use higher octane fuel. BTW, make sure you're using the right oil according to the temp. Hope that helps

grab a long *** screw driver and point it around various spots in ur engine compartment. try to pinpoint the sound. sounds like valves need adjustment. but check to see where its coming from without the car moving. hope its not an engine knock. lol. i dont think it is tho. good luck buddie. valve adjustments are cheap and you can do it yourself. just let the car sit cold over night then grab some special tools and a feeler gauge and a repair manual.

sounds like piston slap to me. this is completely normal for it to do this in cold weather until the engine warms up.

do a compression and leakdown test if you wanna be **** about it.

DAMN THIS TRIAL USER STATUS!
anyway lol at the next post about revving the engine under the hood. all u have to do is turn the throttle body cable pulley, its on the intake manifold right where the intake mates up to the manifold. that question almost brings a tear to my eye, its been so many years since i was a car noobie asking questions like this.

yep, there's a cable connected from the gas pedal to the throttle linkage. why don't u have someone press the gas pedal while you're looking in the engine bay, do it while the engine is off first.. just becareful where you stick ur fingers, there's lots of belts and the fan might turn on..
