Default Shift Linkage / Exhaust / Heat Sheild Rattle?

I installed a new header over the weekend, and now I am experiancing an awful rattle.

It sounds like it is coming directly below me, like it might be the cat, but oddly enough I can get rid of the rattle if I move the shifter to the right like I was going to shift into 5th or R. I don't even have to put it into gear, just moving it to the right removes it.. which makes me beleave the shift linkage is touching something?

What is around that area that it could be touching to cause a rattle? heat sheild? cat? maybe even the sway bar?

Sometimes the rattle will apear at idle, but it goes away once I get past 2-3k rpm. It does come back if I am making a turn that has some centripital force regardless of the RPM.

Thank a million to anyone who has any ideas!

hmm that is a toughy. I have never heard of that type of rattling before. The only thing I can think of is checking the heat shield over the catalytic converter. Mine was rattling and had to be removed. It rattled at like 3K RPMs though and was not like the problem you are describing but hey, its worth a shot.

i had that happen when i put my headers on, check the cat. the angle my exhaust was different with the new setup, and i think the heat sheild hit. i just bent it out of the way and no probs since.

Check the heat shield. I had that problem and bent the heat shield out of the way of the shift linkage. This happened after I installed a short shifter. Turns out the shifter was loose too. I fixed those with a couple of washers.

Or temporarily remove the heat shield to see if that's the culprit at all.

Good luck!

Seams like everyone says to check out the heatsheild, so I am gonna pop that sucker off and see what it does. If nothign else hopefully I will be able to see if anything is touching while I am underthere.

Thanks for the help all.
