Should I Abandon the ED6?

My friend Andy has a 1991 Plymouth Laser (DSM). It's only FWD but it's the turbo model and with the addition of and external wastegate with the boost pushing 10-15psi... it's got some *****. Decent clutch, nice body (needs a passenger side blinker) and no other serious issues. I knew the owner (Rick) before him who rebuilt the DSM as a project and I actually hooked up the sale when Andy was in need of a car. Rick's pretty well off and didn't need the car so he let the laser go for $1500.
Andy's family has now run into some financial difficulties and he doesn't like the DSM anymore because of the very poor gas mileage. He would much rather have a car like mine (ED6 1988 Hatch STD) which gets stupidly great mileage. He offered, no tricks, to trade straight up with my hatch. All I have to do is fix a small hole in the exhaust and a CV joint on the passenger side of mine. So it's ~$250 to patch my hatch up for the trade.
Both cars are in reletively the same condition. No rust, low miles, great great working condition. Mine has 2 small issues, his needs new spark plugs.
Should I stay or should I go?
Also my plans are to use this DSM as a daily driver so I can build up another CRX I have lined up. So I'll still have an EF by the spring.

you originally stated that it gets bad gas mileage. if you get the dsm, your gonna be upset that it eats gas like crazy and are gonna be kicking yourself for not keeping the ED. gas prices are a little on the high side currently. i would not go through with it. who knows what else will break right after getting it. if i remember correctly, DSM arent known for their reliability.

isn't there not too much aftermarket support for those lasers?
and you want a domestic styled interior. blech. what was the japanese version of this car?

the Mitsubishi eclipse, and the Eagle talon.... IMO the talon is the better looking out of all of the three pieces....

Yea... I've been hearing a lot about reliability issues. I have some people that run a Mitsubishi Graveyard here that work specifically on DSMs, but that't not to say they'd charge me for the work.
I have a Z6 head sitting in my garage and I was planning on doing a mini-me. I just need intake/exhaust/head gaskets along with conversion harness and ECU. I honestly knew what the reaction to this would be.
It seems you guys have a warped view of what this car is, though. DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors and it was an attempt to inject the Mitsubishi car/engine as a daily sports car/motor into the American market. They made the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser all with the same engine/tranny/electronics and 90% of the interior and about 50-60% of the exterior is the same or interchangeable.
The engine that came in there is the infamous 6 Bolt 4G63T. The engine is so capable that most, later, 2nd gen eclipse and talon (as the laser was discontinued in 1992) owners put it in the newer cars. You don't see EK owners buying 1st gen B16s do you?
But all arguments aside maybe I should do the Mini-Me and stay ED

well it depends how about u take the DSM and run then go back and sell it for as much as you can and get yourself another honda but thats only if the DSM is worth something

No because Honda engines keep getting better as time goes on. We don't have to worry about crankwalk like the 95-99 DSM. Hahah DSM

Haha yes I wasn't arguing that Honda sucks because they're older engines aren't as good as newer models. That's called progress. Mitsubishi went downhill.

mitsu stills uses that 4g63 in the evo and it's the most overrated motor ever. they're crankwalking pieces of **** and their timing belts always snap, DSM
i say its up to you if u wanna work with a american motor or a japanese motor. But i say stick with the ED6 , DSM motors are hard to work with , the 2.0 engine cant even handle the turbo when going over 120+ MPH . . unless internals are aftermarket.
EDIT : Help your friend look for another ED6 if you insist keeping your ED6 , cant leave a friend with a unreliable car that you already know its gonna break down randomly

Why are you even considering it?
He wants your car, and wants to get rid of his. Why do you think that is?
Honda engines have proven time and again to last, perform, and be fuel efficient.
The DSM's break, are noisy on top of it, and guzzle oil as well as fuel.
Why in gods name would you settle for his hand-me-down ?
