Default Neutral to 2nd question on F4i

Okay so I was riding to church today, and I was approaching a stop light, so I just put it in neutral to coast to the light, then it turn green, but I was still going like 5-10mph so I just wanted to put it into 2nd, so I put the clutch in, and go into second and it made this really loud clank noise, I know the tranny usually clanks when you go into gear but this was pretty loud. Is this a problem? or is it normal?

Thanks

edit- haha oh ya, got my first wheelie today, couldn't resist

Well on my 04 f4i i notice that when i go from nuetral to 2nd like you did it will sometimes try and "bounce out" kind of.... like the shift peg will like jump a few times and then it will go in.... i would assume thats kinda like grinding gears in a car? Am i correct? Not sure if its normal or good for the bike?

Prolly just the dogs engaging, it's pretty normal to get a clunk going from neutral into gear in a dogbox.

sounds normal to me. But i don't think you should be shifting into second at those speeds. That sounds like 1st gear material to me.

Gotta come on with throttle when you come off the clutch. Did you wear leathers to church?

Or just dont put it in neutral.....so that way when the car behind you doesnt see you and is coming up on you at 45mph and you're going 15, you arent just dead in the water, you can either accelerate away or speed up and swerve around the cars ahead of you and let them get rear ended. :D

Yeahhhhhh I know, I took the MSF a while ago, and it was a long stretch of road and clearly saw no one behind me. Oh well. Lesson learned.

When i coast coming to a red light and it turns green before i get there i rev the motor up a lil bit and then shift to second.

This doesn't make that clanky noise when you rev the motor up...

I do the same thing, except I only do it if I split the lanes then when I'm at the front, into neutral she goes.

i get the clanking either way, if i rev the engine or don't rev the engine. this is just like "grinding the gears" on a car. it's not good for the transmission. the best thing to do to prevent it is be stiff footed. if you push up gently with your foot the gears are going to ping hard...if you give it a solid upward lift, it "clunks" in pretty solid...either way, like what others have said, i recommend staying in gear and just pulling in the clutch...
