Default Overrevved, very slight rough idle now.

Ok this happened about a week ago or so. I was getting on it, was going into 4th, and it slipped and went into 2nd for a split second. I pushed in the clutch right away, it was for more than a second at the most. I have a fully built head w/ portflow springs/retainers, ss valves. Ok so the car drives perfectly fine, i've done a compression test, that came out perfect straight across the board at 210 per cylinder, 208 on one of em.

I'm pretty it didn't bend it a valve, might have however, don't know. But the issue i'm having is the idle is just a tad bit rough, i really only notice it cuz it feels a bit rougher with my hand on the steering wheel. You can notice a bit difference in sound. I have a vid i'll be posting up here in a few mins. I'm thinkin it might just need a valve adjustment, the only sympton i have to a bent valve is the idle, and its not even really bad. Just seeing if you guys can lend any help.

i did almost the same thing in our gsr...im not sure about your built head but it doesnt take much to float the valves on a stock motor..hopefully your valves arent bent but thats exaxtly the symtoms i had.

How high did you rev?

i'm not sure, it tached out, i'm not really 100% sure if it went into 2nd or back into 3rd, cuz my hand slipped off the shifter, but if it went into 3rd then it should have really bent a valve or had any effect i would think. I went to shift at around 8200 or so.

heres the vid, listen to sound of the exhaust.

Well it wouldn't be idleing like that for no reason, so rip it apart and find out whats wrong.

Ya well obviously, i know that. I just wanna see first if anybody can tell from experience by the sound, etc..., i'm going to have a valve adjustment done before anything, then if theres still an issue then prob gonna have to pull the head and check out the valves.

I didn't watch the video, (56k owns me), but from the symptoms I think you might be alright with just a valve adjustment. With bent valves it would probably be idling alot rougher than how you describe it.

Have you looked at your spark plugs?

****, i think i might have the same problem, i have a LS motor with a chipped ECU and i might of taken it over 7.2 k rpm too much, my idle is fucked up like urs but worst, it sometimes goes down to 100 and feels lke its going to shut off , do u think i might of done something?

i over-revved twice in my GS-R but not because of mis-shifting, because i wasnt paying attention to my rpms until the rev-limiter kicked in.....my idle isnt rough but my exhaust backfires every 5-10 seconds while idleing....wonder if its the same problem

A mechanical overrev (mis-shift from 3rd at redline to 2nd) is far different than hitting the stock rev limiter. Stoic, your car is fine.

To bring this thread back, i've got an update on my situation. We've done a leakdown test and everything is perfectly fine, doesn't look to be any bent valves, compression test came out straight across.

Got the valve adjustment done, runs a bit smoother, not really an idling issue with the car not idleing at the right rpm, it sounds almost as if its not running 100%. My dizzy has been giving me issues for a while, and it might have been on its last legs, so I have a new one on order, so i'm thinkin that'll take care of it. If you watch the video you can hear what i mean about how it sounds.

i came really close to that the other day..was WOT at 8200 and went to shift into 5th but accidentily hit 3rd luckily i only let the clutch out a little bit before i noticed what i did and i quickly put the clutch back in right when the RPMs were crossing the 6k mark from the mis shift...

i'm pretty sure that completely shifting from 4th at 8200 into 3rd instead of 5th would screw something up

i was just lucky enough to catch the RPM at 6k while it was on its way up to be way past 8200 if i didnt push in the clutch when i did

I dunno, i know theres somethin wrong, compression & leakdown test came out good. So i'm not really sure, i mean if it was a bent valve the leakdown test should've shown somethin right?

It sounds like a misfire. What year is your GSR? Are there any CELs?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Dogginator &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Have you looked at your spark plugs?</TD></TR></TABLE>

I'd also look at the distributor cap and rotor.

This is probably the problem.

The OBDII ECU should be able to detect the misfire. That is strange. Do you think that there could be something loose in the exhaust? Perhaps the catalyst?
