i heard that JDM sir1 cams have different specs than US b16a3 cams from civic si(even though they make same hp). does anyone have specs on these cams. i could get a set for very cheap and need to know if they have better specs than my sir1 cams.
yes the 1 gen's suck. The newer cams SI and Gsr will give you some hp. they have a more aggerssive profile.
agreed first gen b16 cams are the worst cam you could use. i put in a set of 98 gsr cams and it was like adding a 30 shot. it doesnt matter what cams you get just get different one.
Is there really that big of a difference, say I put ITR, and CTR cams in my B16?
What other type of head work would I need to do for those cams to run correct?
How safe is this set up with Boost? I guess that question does not really matter.
but, thanks

Since the B16 head is very similar to the R head, then putting in R cams makes a pretty good difference.
All motor, people usually can get about 170-ish whp with R or CTR cams, and all the bolt-ons. That's pretty damn good.
For FI applications, people usually say to use GS-R or Si cams, because of the less overlap. you don't want a lot of overlap with FI, because you lose some air being forced in.

HA!
PROVE TO ME that you can get 170 wheel Horse Power with R cams in a B16a.
I'd like to see that with R cams and bolt ons. <Meaning NO internals or headwork, naturally aspirated>

I've seen it done with R cams, R intake manifold, R TB, the rest of the bolt ons and dyno tuning. But for just cams and I,H,E, can't see it happening. My friend that made over 170 with that setup still wasn't happy with his usable power, said it was too peaky. Now he is doing a full rebuild with higher compression. HTH.

Go to ClubSi, there are a few there ........
Intake, really good header, exhaust, CTR intake cam, ITR exhaust cam(same for each of them), cam gears, pulleys, VTEC controller, and a few hours on the dyno ..... no biggie!
People get 155-ish from i/h/e, so why is it so hard to believe??

the reason there is such a drastic change is because most 1st gen's come with the automatic cams which are alot worse that the manual ones. so if you buy the newer ones from a manual car there alot better.

This would allow the higher lift, and longer duration of the R components to be put to excellent use. Then again...are they even that much higher than the GSR cams? Any specs?
I sure hope you guys are upgradeing your Valve springs when putting in stock ITR/CTR/GSR cams in, since 1g B16a's come with weak *** valve springs (single spring)
