Default whats under YOUR hood?

hey guys, ive got an 88 rex si, im lookin to do a swap but i dont want to go b series yet, so staying within the realm of a d series what swaps would be best, what swap would be easiest and what swap would be cheapest, i have a totaled 97 ex y8 and so i think i should have everything i need to do that swap, but the only advantage over my a6 that i see is like 20 hp and vtec, should i just sell the y8 and get a zc? keep the a6 and just build that motor? what would you do?

seeking advice from the pros @ honda-tech

P.S. I want the best performance per buck and im not opposed to selling the y8 i allready have to get a better motor

who here has done the y8 swap & how hard is it, do i have to use the y8 ecu & harness? what about the mounts? will i be able to keep my nice close gear ratio-ed trans from my a6 or am i gonna have to use the one from the 97ex?

what exactly is a "mini-me"? dont laugh, im a "noob"

I would go with a dohc zc engine. You can use your stock ecu and tranny and what not. Just a little re-wiring

here's my opinion. take the y8 head and put it on your a6 block, it's a direct change over. use your a6 distributor and stock harness, then just wire in vtec. you will have to get a pw0 or a pr3 ecu (it's the jdm obd0 b16a ecu). with that head and intake manifold you can also use a b series throttle body. you don't have to worry about transmissions, you still keep your stock one. with this setup and good driving your could easily pull low to mid 9's in the 1/8 mile.

if you do this setup there are a couple of little things you will have to do. use all of the a6 head bolts except for the one that goes to the upper left corner if you are at the front of the car facing the motor. that one bolt needs to be from the y8. also on top of the block where the head bolts onto, there is an oil jet squirter thingy (don't know the actual name for it). you need to take it out as there is already one in the head.

oh yea and a mini-me is roughly translated to the d-series ls-vtec. it's just a sohc vtec motor in the ef.
