Default Axel nutx on my 94 accord

the axel nuts on my 94 accord EX are ridiculously tight!

i put my whole body weight (220 lbs) on a 18 inch wrench and the nut won't budge

and yes i did bend out the dimple already, is there anything else besides the dimple holding it on?

No. They are torqued to around 150 ft lbs and get tougher over time. I have broken an 18 in 1/2 inch breaker bar before (driveway). If you have a 1/2" impact and some air that is best. Other wise spray some wd or they have some better stuff but I can't think of what it is called on it and wait an hour if nothing spray some more and wait. Just make sure to wipe off real good before putting back together.

They are tough to get off but they will come off. Time and effort.

i haven't run into a problem yet.. but i use a 3/4" breaker bar that's 24" long.. i'm surprised more of you haven't broken your 1/2" bars

on the really tough ones 1/2" breaker bars will snap, u would need to step up to a 3/4" or preferably impact wrench.

I just broke my 18 in 1/2 in breaker bar yesterday, but it's Craftsman so it souldn't be an issue with replacement. I was going to try heating up the nut before trying to take it off. Either that or step up to the 3/4 in size.

Yeah been there done that. Heating does work a little but only advised if replacing axle as it may weaken the axle nut end. Don't use propane or you will be sitting there for a while otherwise get a comfy chair.

Ah the excitement of breaking a 1/2" breaker. And the benefit of Lifetime Warranty.

When I did My H22 swap, I snapped 3 1/2" pullhandles in a single night. we eventually ground the nut and half the axle off with a grinder. We had no air supply, so that would have helped. Don't worry about the axle. we had Prelude axles, anyways.

Definately Impact.
It is definately nice to have a compressor at home.
Then you don't have to buy expensive 3/4 sockets.
I just removed two rusted axle nuts on a 87 accord today.
I have also cut one off before with a cut-off wheel. If you do it right you can cut down without getting axle (unless they are cores) and loosen the grib to the threads.

I know that they aren't as powerful, but would an electric impact wrench get one off if its has a maximum of like 240 lbs of torque?

when i snapped my axle near my gf's house, i broke 6 crapsman 1/2" breaker bars in a row, i finally gave up and took the whole knuckle off and brought it home to shoot off with the impact wrench.
