Default Transmission question

i figure i will try here as well. any of you happen to know if a 88-91 Si tranny will bot up to an 89 integra? i know they are both d series motors, but i know that the usdm zc in the integra is slightly different than the jdm zc (on which an Si tranny does work)
thanks

there's no such thing as a "usdm zc", it's a d16a1.

regarding the tranny, i don't it'd work because the mounts are different. but don't quote me...send a message to Mista Bone, he's the dseries tranny guru here.

Engine mounts be damned, that wasn't the question... Yes, an L3 tranny will bolt up to a D16A1 (86-89 integra) block. During a H-parts re-organization in my garage, I tried sticking an empty L3 case onto my bare D16A1 block.
Now, yes the L3 tranny has a different tranny housing casting for the EF mount system. It's as if Honda just recycled the original CG (integra) clutch housing and cast a new tranny housing for the EF's and called it an L3.
The internal's of a CG tranny are vastly different from an L3 though...no swapping there.

yes there is, i dunno if thats what honda calls it, but its a zc that was sold in america with a different output than what it had in japan, so that to me is usdm. ao TJm ur saying that it will bolt up but the internals are different?

Sure, the D16A1 is basically a ZC internally. Except that nowhere on it is anything resembling ZC stamped on it. Plus the D16A1 has a mounting scheme like the 84-87 Civic and the ZC is designed to bolt into EF's and such.

Yes. An L3 will bolt to a D16A1. Amen. You are on your own for a tranny mount but it bolts to the motor.

I'm not exactly sure what flywheel/clutch pressure plate you'd use because I only bolted the empty L3 case to the bare D16A1 block.

Yeah, they are aluminum, but in any location other than where there is already threaded holes, it wouldn't be a good idea to tap threads. The case walls aren't that thick - you'll end up poking a new drain hole. A mount could certianly be fab'd using the old mounting location (under the frame rail) and the top of the L3.
