For a real race car, its to pull yo *** outta the way if you scatter your motor,but yeah,the ones sold on ebay/online are mainly for the bling factor.

 

oh i know they were used on race cars but for cars on the street its pointless...not to mention most cars have stock tow hooks

 

If you actually did flip you car in to some trees way off the road and had to be pulled out your car is probably fucked and he can chain around a suspension arm. I know from experience.

 

its also so that they dont have to chain your car up around a suspension arm to pull you out of somewhere. ever try to explain to a "i only buy american cars" tow truck driver not to hook your car on the stock tow hooks because you have a jdm front conversion and a lowered car and dont want your bumper torn off in the process? that is more what they are for. call me crazy, but i think they are kinda cool, and no im not a ricer.

 

Another use for it is to give the thieves another place to tow your car from...easier access...whoohoo
