a/c compressor "blowing out" refrigerant. a/c gurus!!! help me please
what would cause this to happen... it is actually leaking beneath the car. replaced dryer, and expansion valve. went to recharge the system and after the first can revved the engine to about 2-2.5k and seemed like the compressor was relieving and over pressure situation, but i put less than the specified amount. what would cause this ? this is my wife's car. she's pregnant and nagging. please help ... oh system is a 92 civic system that has been converted. thanks in advance
Just checking if you changed the oil in the compressor when you converted. I thought the refrigerant was in gas state. How does the puddle look color, does it evaporate quickly. Did you do a leak test on the line? I had to do my girls car excessive whining
yeah i changed the oil... that's what was leaking out. but it had a gas leaking too which i'm assuming is a small amount of refrigerant ..it's holding a vacuum, until it blows out, after it blows out it's still not leaking. i'm stumped.
first off thats your a/c pressure relife valve it will pop if the car is overcharged or the pressure is higher than 400 psi (estimated guess). the only reasons it would blow immediately after would be a overcharge. i don't know if you know but converted r-12 to r134a systems use less refridgerant so you need to fill the 92 civic you have to .57kgs (not estimate iam a certified honda tech certified, macs certified, and ase a/c certified)
ok.. i was going by the pressure thing and the ambient temp but i'll try again./.. also is the compressor still good if it releives like that?

What is the high side pressure when it's leaking? A restriction in the system could be a problem. Sometimes a bad pressure relief valve will leak under normal conditions. They are available separately.

compressor is ok, if the body isn't cracked. i think that you should check your a/c relay, pull the relay out and look inside the relay, check for burns or anything else. Sometime the a/c relay gets stuck and causes the compressor to be on all the time, and build up too much pressure. i would also replace the releive valve
