I'm gonna try and do this once I get one of those exacto knife things.

I did the R1 twice a couple years ago, and the VMAX once. It takes some patience, and a steady hand.
Use thick paper (card stock), and score the lines where you need to fold. Do not be afraid to use a straightedge. Elmers glue applied w/a toothpick works pretty well, but I've also used rubber cement. Only use the rubber cement if you're using card stock.

i already started my project. its so hard to fold the tabs perfectly so that no white shows. my r1 took 18 pages to print and has 117 parts. so far i've only got like 8 parts folded. lol.

I still have the first R1 they put out, it's from 3 years ago. I think I cut out 10 pieces and assembled 3 before putting in on a shelf. Definitely cool, definitely time consuming and frustrating.
I started one about a year ago heh... the red R1. I only did a little bit and stopped, but I still have it all sitting here. Definitely use thick paper and apply glue with a toothpick. I don't think it'd be possible to do otherwise. The hardest part is folding and gluing some of the small parts neatly. Otherwise it's a lot like building a plastic model, just no paint.
