Is there anyway to get the SRS light off? The car ('02 honda accord coupe) was in a front bumper accident and the SRS computer was replaced but the light still comes on. Could it be the seatbelt buckles or is there something i need to do to reset the computer? ?

It is not supposed to be on "all the time". It is indicating a system failure, and it will probably not deploy the next time you need it.
You make no mention that the sensor pack (deceleraometers) was replaced as the car was repaired; could be your problem......
Anyway, it will require a trip to your Honda dealer for diagnosis and repair.
Being such a critical life/death system, I wouldn't screw with it.

Considering you have what amounts to a rocket motor sitting 8 inches from your chest, I'm not going to attempt to diagnose this thru a forum.

Probably your airbag control module, as stated. They put those lights on your dash so when something goes wrong, you take your *** to the dealer, not try to turn it off.

 

the srs system goes through a self check when the car goes on. if the light comes on the system is disabled and will not deploy. i would guess a crash sensor in your bumper wasn't replaced.

 

since you mentioned front bumper damage, I would check the sensors for the srs sytem before you do anything else. If one of the front sensors is damaged, it will throw the light on. Maybe DesertHonda can give you the procedure for reading the SRS codes

 

Yeh, and if you're real lucky you won't trigger an airbag deployment worth moocho dollaro (and possibly kill yourself in the process).
How many different ways do I have to say that Airbag modules are small bombs. They're powered by Rocket Fuel (just ask around) and have been known to go off from nothing more than static electricity.

 

I have also had to replace seat belt pretensioners after accidents along with front sensors and srs comp.

Sometimes if you reset the computer you will be able to tell if your light will come back on. This you have to find the 2 pin connector for airbags which is under driver panel near fuse box. Jump this connector, turn key to on engine off. Light will go off, unplug one side, light goes on, plug back in, light goes off, repeat this until your light blinks 2 times quickly.
You must do this within 4 seconds of the light coming on or off to work.
That will reset your light. If it comes back on see the part where pa_itr said to take your *** to honda.

Make sure you get the right service connector. It should have a capped end plugged into it or ask someone for a picture diagram.

Did a shop do the work??? if so did they let u take ur car with SRS lite on ??? or did lite came on afterwards????,,,,,,,,If lite has been on since accident and never gone off ur insurance co. should pay for it it is part of the accident and the shop should have it fixed while car was there .........as for what the problem might be u got to read the code and have it diagnosed ,,,when it comes to SRS i would advised to take it to a Honda place,, dealer or a shop that specializes on hondas

 

Straight from the service manual:
G sensors (decelloraometers)
Airbag(s)
Seat belt retractors.

Chilton's spells out the proceedure and connector tools required in their service manuals. But unless you've experience working with the bomb squad, I'd still suggest having the dealer look at it.

The manuals contradict themselves however (which shows how dangerous this stuff is) ie: In order the test the system you need power, yet they recommend disconnecting BOTH battery cables when servicing the system. Even they respect it.

Also yes and if you plan on doing any work even remotely close to srs then disconnect negative cable then positive and wait 3 minutes to discharge backup battery.

 

No, it should not stay on all the time. Get it checked out by a machanic, or live a little more dangerously, not knowing if it will work when you need it.

 

does it have side airbags??..if it does?? check the side airbags....we have this problem at our shop when we repair the 98+ accord...
