Well I was removing my motor yesterday and I noticed that there is a place on my head where a vtec solenoid should go. I thought that the motor was stock from when I bought the car. Is there a stamp or something on the head that tells me what head it is? I'm really confused about my motor now. Thanks

Open the valve cover and look.

You didint mention was it Dohc or Sohc.

Look for a 3rd lobes in camshafts.

 

It is SOHC

 

Bump for some help. Anyone know if there should be a place for a vtec solenoid on a non vtec head?

 

if there is a place for it...but isnt an actual hole...like its the mnold of a hole its a sohc non-vtec head...if its an actual hole then its a vtc head

 

haha an if its an actual hole you might have a oil leak

otherwise yes take off the valve cover (quick and easy) and see if there is a total of 12 lobs I believe (lets see 3x4= )

Whats the Engine ID code on the block?

Im wondering if you have a head that was originally Carbed, and someone swapped the FI system over to it.

I *think* the JDM D15 carbed has the fuel pump on the back of the head next to the IM.

 

the jdm carb'd engine that my buddy bought and switched to FI says "D15B" on it

he is giving me the carbd intake although i have no idea what to do with it except to display it as art


--and its not vtec but it has the same blank-hole that you guys are describing

 

Where are the spark plugs on the head? Are they facing the intake or facing the radiator?
