Just picked up my rsx type s tranny need idea's for my race tranny!
I just got my type s k series trannie for my race car and im looking for some ideas to get it race ready! it a 02 type s and im looking into gearing options anyone have any Ideas! i will be buying my k24 motor soon and looking to make some great power! also looking for a head for my build is it true the type s is the way to go or type r! what about the tsx head ? im sorry i cant really do the search work because the buisness take up much of my time and being a single father really takes up more! I purchased a 04 rsx type s body for the new car and will be starting the build soon! the R & D for the k series will start in my old car so we wont have to play with to much chassis stuff at first to figure out the set up and i will be swapping it into the rsx when its done and hopefully will have aquired enough k series stuff to keep the integra running with a light woman driver to help sponser dollars! i hate to say it guys the women can really draw attention to your team! Not to mention i can save a ton of money in exotic parts to lighten the integra more! I wieght 175 and if i can find a girl who can rip the car and be competitive 75 pounds off the car for free goes long way! currenly we have the fastest uni - body integra at 10.60 and We havent been out for a while but i am looking forward to some teasting soon and a battle event coming soon and cmi's.
looking forward to getting out racing again on the circuit again and seeing you all soon!

It doesn't take long to search on a topic like this, hell you could have searched it in the time it took you to think and write what you posted.
If you are a shop owner and customer's confide in you to do things for them, then you need to take the time to educate yourself on your career. Even if it means staying up a little later after your kids go to bed and doing some research. you have the responsibility to keep yourself up to date and informed.
From what I've seen and heard, Rcrew and RedZone know alot about the K20's and 24's. Maybe you can ask them. They are in your area, and have done some great K series builds and tunes.

The type s trans is a poplular choice this point in time. Just remember I have found out that's when choosing gears or a transmission it has to utilize mph which inturn gets the most powerfull power band your car is making. This is true with you current race car. Look at your dyno graphs and there you will be able to know at what rpm you shift at and where you make the most power and utilize that to your advantage.
I am currently going with a type s trans aswell. I will get the car tuned and will look over my power and gearing and utilize the best for the car.
Remember that fd's will also help aswell. I know of muscle cars that have final drives closer then some of the hondas on this board. Of course there motors are built accordingly but yeah it will go nicely with the k24 you plan on using.

no disrespect to jeremy, brandon, or r crew but if i thought they knew what i wanted to hear i would have asked! im looking for people who know Drag racing gearing to tone in like norris or tony 1 or possably the great dr. charles. any ways i appriciate your snotty answer and next time dont bother to answer my post! all motor ***** thanks for your kind post and i am going to do some teeth counting in the next few days and probably do a f/d change and i did see an article in one of the magazine about a typr r being made out of a type s or a 5 speed or something like that does anyone know what magazine it was and what month!
I hate to say it but the gears in thos trannys are junk ask skunk and the clucthmasters team. I would say try some customs gears but good luck.
i am aware of the breakages but i need to get a base to start with before i spend a grip on a liberty set or others! does quaiffe have anything popping yet?
A-Train, theres other sources that have lots of info that will help you out.... its going to be pretty hard for say like Norris or the skunk2 team to share anything because they are the guys on top...... i dont blame them, they have had to go through a lot of breakage just to figure things out, so theres no point in them just tellin everyone, it will kill it for them..... i will help you out for sure, you dont know me or anything like that, but i have dealt with many huge build ups with k-Series engines, and have been helping give feedback for Intrinsic Performance Solutions..... we've made over 300hp on our street car... if you want, you can always PM me, or if you just want to read about it, go to the All Motor forum of http://www.k20a.org, and you will find lots of info there... hope that helps...

im no expert but first thing i would do is look into 3rd gear changes first. i see alot of great times coming out of K series motors, but when you look at the incrementals in ETs from 60,330,660, 1000 on to the 1320 you will notice right away the B series trannies have good gearing.
i notice the K series are slower to the first incrementals up to about 330 then they pick up after that. my friend owned a RSX type S and he said theres a big gap between 2nd and 3rd. he thinks its due to honda trying to keep the 0-60 numbers decent. just some food for thought.

Thanks for the input you 2 and i do know how secretive s2 and norris are about there setup and i will be trying to make it to vegas to see some of the suspenson setups and chassis work out at the track. what im really looking for is to setup our new car with a tannie or two thats stock and work from there cause obviously making power will be be the first job and i dont think the 300 mark will be a problem because we are right there with the b series and its a matter of making the whole package together! im only looking for us outsider guys to lend a few bones and help catch these high dollar teams. I always was the first to lend anyone out there a hand and im hoping we can all come together to work on catching these teams who are dominating the track! I have came a long way with building our own stuff and have already done a k20 build that netted well over 500 fwhp in and street ek and its still out there putting down the numbers! i think the trannie is a weak link and the bearings also! i have work with rs on a good combo for that turbo set up and i think we can come up with a good all motor set up! i can only wonder what the power in the k series can do for my car and i look forward to coming back to the place i love the most the race track! i miss all of my friends out there and i miss driving my car but the kids and the new shop must come first!
Chad,
I would highly suggest that you give Jamie Houseman a call at http://www.racegearbox.com
You will not be disappointed; plus it would surprise you: many racers use him, but keep it a secret. I will let them decide if they desire to make it public.

Well I have had problems with 2nd in my Type R box, in fact I'm on my 3rd 2nd gear set now. so expect that to be a problem...
I found with my set-up i had to make a choice between using 5th or tracking down a type S box, which we dont get locally. You might find with the Type S box and a Type R 4.7 FD that you can only trap around 122mph if your at 9000 on a 25"slick, with my type R set-up I get 112mph on a 24.5"slick.
How ever if you stay with the stock type S box you'll manage to trap around 130mph in 4th. So I guess it depends on how many gears you wanna use really..
I have a guy over here for around $3500US makes a complete custom gear set, including new strong shafts, straight cuts gears etc etc etc. He can make any ratio's and has made a couple of circuit box's which have used custom 1st and 2nd, factory 3rd new 4th and 5th and moved the factory 5th to be the new 6th
