Default re-routing rear wires behind strut tower wall?

is it safe to re-route the rear wires (wires that run on top of the driver's side rear strut tower to the back that hook up to the rear taillights, antennae, and hatch glass defogger) from where it is now to behind the strut tower wall? Meaning it'll run behind the inner frame wall and right underneath the fuel tank filler funnel. I hope you guys know what I'm talking about. I know it'll look cleaner but is it a safety issue reguarding that the wires will be so close to the filler funnel? post up your comments, thanks.
