replacing inner tie rod
I was looking through my service manual and don't see anything as far as replacing the inner tie rods or the steering rack bushing. Maybe someone can give me a quick walk through or post a link of one, before i jump into the project. thanks in advance
All I can say is:
Buy a $5-$10 17mm "crows foot" and the job will be 100% easier...its virtually impossible without one.
Also mark up your alignment with a sharpie, so you can make an educated guess on how to put it back together in a safe way.
Also get a 3lb mini sledge, big old beat-up flathead screwdriver, and a punch, so you can wail on the lock washers.
As for the bushing, you'll want to undo the rack enough to get it to hang down clear of the upper fender well...so you can get at it easier...the time spent undoing the rack is a mere blip compared to the hours you could spend wrestling with it otherwise.
and do a search, there was and excellent writeup by 94eg! on this.

The crows foot allows you to use a long extension with a big ratchet or braker bar to brake loose the inner tie rod. Without it your only way to get it off is to wrestle with a wrench, which would give you no leverage and make the job 3x longer.
it is pretty straight forward. you just take it all off. nothing too tricky. you will want that sledge to wail on the outer tie rod. takes some patience and be careful what you're hitting! putting the inner tie rod in can be pretty shitty. it will spin around with your wrench if don't grip the right part of the tie rod. good luck. my uncle's lift really helped me out!!!
