Sanding/Spray Painting Hood
So, I spray painted my hood all black the other day.
So what we did when we painted, was sand the stock paint down until we had sanded out all the bubbles in the paint. We used 300-400 grit sandpaper, I'm pretty sure, to sand it all down smooth. Primered where the metal was showing (where some of the rust spots were) After, we painted it with real light coats, and it came out pretty good! I think overall we put 3 coats on.
Now, a week later, you can see the streaks in the hood. A friend of mine told me if we add another coat, and then go over it with very fine (1000 grit or so?) sandpaper, this will smooth the appearance out.
Is this the correct way to do this? I plan on doing the rest of the car (don't hate, I just want it to be one color. This isn't a show car, ****, I don't even have an interior in it at the moment) Anyone can offer tips?
Also, what brand of paint do you suggest for "spray paint" jobs. I just want something that will stick, and "flat" colored as possible. No glossy spray paint.
I've got the painting down pretty good.. real light quick strokes, light coats, then go over again when it dries. But as far as the sanding, what should I sand the original paint down with, grit wise, before hand? Also, after the paint, should I sand again?
