Default ~4500-VTEC bog and throttle delay

On my wife's RSX-S I'm starting to notice the throttle response is getting worse. Also, from 4500 RPM until vtec kicks in, it seems there is a BIG loss of power. Is this normal? Once it kicks over to VTEC it launches like a rocket, but prior to that, it really seems to be struggling. I don't drive this car very often, so I'm wondering if I'm just not noticing till now, and everyone has that type of response, or if I have a bird stuck in the intake or something.

Could have gotten bad fuel..... first try unplugging the battery for 15 minutes (technical term = reset the ecu).... if that doesnt help its probably the fuel. I'm assuming this is a stock k20a2?

try putting a new air filter in. considering it is your wife's car it probably has the STOCK intake right? check the air filter. put some octane booster in there if that dont work and try to neutralize your fuel. if that doesnt work then ask a technician. btw. make sure your oil level is good too because vtec is engaged with oil pressure.

It has an ebay pipe and filter. I'll run through this tank of gas, refill, and see if anything changes. I haven't checked the oil since I noticed it, and it's about due for a change anyway, I'll check that out. I guess I'd better go ahead and check for birds while I'm in there . Thanks guys.

the bog is due to the aftermarket intake and stock vtec crossover. You need to lower the crossover until the transition feels smooth or get some dyno tuning done.

I was thinking that, but didn't figure it was the CAI. Thought it was just tuned from honda to dip before vtec engages.

I assume you're talking about the valve cover breather. The best way to do that it to run a catch can. I put a breather filter on my civic, but oil would puddle in it after a while.

Do you have a picture of your setup? it's kinda hard to visualize
