Default jdm h22 smogable?

i plan on buying a swap from my friend. It has the papers so it is legit. The only problem is it will not pass smog. What can I do to make it smogable before I buy the swap?

I know when people are talking about getting thier cars BAR'ed, it means that it is legal to have a 'new' motor with bigger displacement in your car? My friend told me that if it is BAR"ed then it doesnt have to be smogged.

So if it is not smogged then it cant be BAR'ed?

Thanks guys, I'm confused adn cant let the offer slip away.

Well I tried to smog a jdm h22 in my civic , and it would not pass no matter what I did. It is a stock h22a except i/h/e , 255 fuel pump and fpr. I tried new wires/plugs/seafoam/oil change/changing timing/new o2 sensor and failed all 4 times. I know i'm from washington state , but I thought cali might be more harsh. All test where done by sniffer............Oh I even tried that stuff you get @ the auto parts store called "gauranteed to pass emmissions" and still no luck.

you need to swap the intake manifold from a USDM h22 and put that in the motor because jdm doesnt have some emmission sensors like usdm ones. So there make sure it has emmissions sensors and cat with stock exhaust manifold and stock air box. then you go to the state ref and they ba you if you pas. Oh and make sure you have usdm ecu and the engine is same year or newer than car. And make sure the install is as neat as possible and you have all recips for engine to show prof its not stolen.

1. The engine is the same year as car or newer.

2. The ECU is a USDM and not JDM.

3. NO JDM wiring harness, it must be USDM.

4. The intake must be the original USDM air box, OR an intake that has a C.A.R.B sticker that is STRICTLY for the swapped motor. (Example: an AEM CAI for a GSR with a GSR motor will PASS, a AEM CAI for a Type R with a GSR motor will NOT pass)

5. The exhaust manifold MUST BE USDM, and if it is not O.E. then it must have a C.A.R.B sticker that matches the motor. I asked the ref. if they could really tell the difference between a stock USDM and JDM exhaust manifold, and he said that they have pictures for everything, and there are slight differences.

6. No adjustable FPR's, not unless it has a C.A.R.B. sticker.

7. Must have a catalytic converter hooked up (this one is pretty obvious).

8. All USDM O.E. smog equipment MUST be hooked up and working properly! Try to find a vacuum diagram from a helms manual for an h22 prelude, it will show you what smog equipment you need.

Yes, it is just a certification that you have a different motor installed in your car, not necessarily bigger displacement. ie, i could have a d16z6 and swap it with a b16, they are of the same displacement 1.6L.

It's the opposite, if it is not BAR'ed, it cannot be smogged. You need to get the BAR certification if you are required to take your car to a TEST ONLY station that does the sniffer AND visual inspection. You need the BAR certificaiton to pass the visual.

Hope this clears it up.
