Cold Idle Problem??
I have a '93 Honda Civic 1.5 fuel injected with 5 speed. When I start the car it runs fine unless I try to drive it. As soon as I touch the gas pedal the check engine light comes on and it will not accelerate properly. Like as the RPM rises its being choked... However, if you let the engine reach operating temp. and then shut it off and restart, the light goes out and it runs fine with smooth acceleration. I checked for codes; there are none present. Any ideas???
thanks

Don't drive it when it is cold.j/k For real, how long do you usually wait to drive it after you start it up? I always let my car warm up for at least 15 seconds in the summer and a few minutes in the winter.

No matter how long the car runs, it will stay in the condition i described. Once the car is warmed up and i restart it, then the problem goes away and the car runs fine, without the constant flutter in acceleration.

If the CEL is on when the car is running, jump the service check connector. If no code is displayed (the CEL stys on steady), the back-up system is in operation. Subtitiute with a know good ECU and retest. If the problem goes away replace the ECU. It could be fuel filter, fuel pump, or the injectors. Try substituting a good ECU first though..
