Default Tachometer not reading correctly

I recently got a '91 CRX Si with a SOHC ZC motor and the tachometer is not reading correctly. I drove it on the freeway at about 80mph and the tach needle was close to the redline marking. Anyone know what could be the cause of this? The needle seems to be moving quickly but it moves pretty fast!

its the factory tachometer; i was thinking about borrowing a autometer tach to see if its the gauge or not but i havent been able to get a hold of one to test my theory..

in the back of the tach theres a wire im not sure but there should be a blue and a brown one, at least thats wat autometer tach had and then they have a diogram to cut either the blue one for a 4 cyl or the brown one for the 6 or both for the 8 cyl.

hope that can help.
