DC2 - shaving molding?
Finally have my own garage so now i can trash the side molding without fear of door dings. Just got the oem sides, ready to install, but i think the molding ruins the clean lines....can it be done without a full repaint? Don't think i've seen the molding off a [non-ITR] dc2 so not really sure how big the holes are or how even many? I guess spot weld a tab on the inside of each and fill it flush but i wonder if it's possible to blend them in with a clean spot spray, wet sanding, and polishing...? (The car is an '01 and frost white w/ excellant paint). Yeah yeah, perfect time to make the switch to CW but that money could go a longgg ways on an all motor & transmisison build. Thanks in advance...
here is a pic of my GSR with the molding shaved off. The shop had to weld and fill the holes that held the door molding on. The whole car was repainted after.

i believe total of 10 holes per side [7 in the door, 3 in the rear 1/4 panel.] they are maybe .6"x.6".
you would have to weld a piece of metal then fill it with bondo and sand it smooth. i guess you can repaint only the bottom portion and have it paint matched.

I've heard it's hard to blend the section that the molding covers. If you're going to do this, make sure you don't **** up and not sand the area TOTALLY smooth, or you'll get some nasty ripples along the side of your door... which is what this fucked up body shop left me with
