TZ plans
Been speaking to a couple of people.
I have finally upgraded my race licence therefore I am no longer a squid. This means I can race with grown ups now. Next year instead of club racing there is an option to move into MRO, which is like AMA before they got rid of 2 strokes. You have to qualify for races, and its more money to enter (just). However you get more time on the track and are in a bigger pond of talent, therefore although I am gong to be last I am going to be a faster last sooner rather than later.
To this end I have a plan if I go down this route. You remember the bike....

Well I reackon its the best TZ chassis. The engine loses out to the more modern ones as it is not as square, less drive in the midrange.
$2500 I found out today gets me an 01 engine. Another $1000 on top of that gets it tuned. $1500 gets me a datalogger. I can then measure how crap I am scientifically. Wheel speeds, throttle, detonation along with cicuit maps can be downlaoded into the system so you can 'see' what you did on lap 7 that gave you an extra 0.5s a lap.
Anyone want an ITR?
Also new leathers soon, will post up some armour like you have never seen when I get them.
Donations to the usual address please

Nice man. I was looking into getting a two stroke, but it just seems like so much money for all the maint. How often do re-build your topend? What about the crank?

I mean its a race engine so it does need looking after. Pistons every 300 miles, Crank every 1500 miles. Strip and check the barrels after each race.

Thats awesome man, i wish i could afford to get my *** to the track just once, im sure id never look back, but that doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon, guess im stuck as a squid forever....props on getting teh full race licence though man thats awesome!!
That's great to hear, Luke. Best of luck.
Would you post up something, if it's not too much trouble, about proper form? Through the reading I've done, and the lack of really formal instruction at my track days, I haven't found much about proper body positioning while turning. Braking, accelerating, support points on the bike, all those were simple... I know what works for me, what's starting to work, and what downright doesn't - but I'm a bit lost on what's 'right.'

just wondering...is this all for fun, or are you trying to make a career out of this?</TD></TR></TABLE>
For fun, first and last. You need to be talented and have a ton of money then start racing when you are 8yrs old to really get to the top.

Whats right is hugely personal. I know one rider who looks completely odd on his bike and takes lines that shouldn't work, but he still wins races. Main thing to learn IMO is how to approach a turn and how to use the brakes.

Pick up a braking point and use it each time. Work on one corner at a time, some you'll click with others you will be slow at. On the ones you are slow at find the line that blocks people to overtake. Dont ever get sucked in to someone elses race. If someone comes flying round you then one of two things is the reality of it. Either they are mega fast/you are mega slow or they have outbraked themselves. Stick to the correct lines the speed will come. It is easier to go fast straight away and get the bike all over the place feeling like you are the business but the speed will plateau and its difficult to un-learn bad habits.
