Ok, the Front Brakes on my 91 Dx are shot. So i am in the market for new brakes, orignally i was gonna go with an EX setup, but i have since become unemployed and don't have time or money to get involved.
What brakes should i go with? i am looking to upgrade but as cheaply and readily accessible as possible?
Will 99 si calipers bolt up to my knuckles??
PS i searched but i still cant make up my mind.

The set up I went with on my 89 civic is:
New from the dealer master cylinder for 89 Si prelude (15/16")
91 SiR knuckles
95 GSR front calipers
Hawk front brake pads
racing brake rotors front and back
91 rear crx disc conversion
OEM rear pads (switched from hawk, because I was locking rears, OEM was the way to go)
ss brake lines
93 4040 TEG prop valve
HTH
very happy with it. Never driven a car that could brake this good and evenly.

I couldn't agree with you more.

ok thanks for the input guys perhaps i should elaborate on the setup i already have:
F: Stockeverything except EARLS SS lines
R: Brembo Blanks
CRX trailing arms
Earls SS Lines
Other plumbing:
15/16" EX MC (awaiting front brake selection for install)
DA 40/40 Prop Valve
So what should i get for the front? cheap but effective (Preferably using my existing DX knuckles)

Honestly, just pick up some Hawk HPS pads. I paid 50$ for a pair a few months back. Couldn't be happier. Our cars are pretty light, I don't see any need to go overboard unless you're building a car for track days and what not. For 50$ you can't beat having a really nice set of pads. After you do that, if you really want more stopping power look into knuckle upgrades and such (i.e. Teg brakes). But I'd do it one step at a time.

Yea honestly i was hoping that he would chime in with some specifics of his setup
And to the dude above me that said hawk pads, i need new rotors mine are too skinny to resurface so i am trying to get a feel on what kind of cheap upgrades there are

calipers= accord wagon/vigor/legend with 17CL15VN calipers
rotors = 4gEX / DA / 99 Si , all the same.
Then machine 1/8"/3mm off the caliper bracket.
I have been carry'n around a pair of brackets for over 3 months now and have yet to drop them off to get machined. I have a lathe but it does me no good on things like this.

The caliper bracket is part of the caliper I guess youl'd say. Search for topics by Jonathan_ED3 and look at the thread about "easyest brake upgrade you never knew about" if you have not seen it. I think there is a pic of a caliper bracket there. I made 4 3mm washers on me lathe and put them behind the rotor , to make sure the wheels I have would clear and they did, I have the 14" 5 spoke factory del sol wheels, and they just did clear, almost too close for comfort, but not touching anything. I'd say not all 14's will clear by how much clearance I had. About price, I found a junkyard with 3 legends and a couple of vigors, I got 2 sets of the 17CL15VN calipers(incase one set gets screwed up machining the bracket), and I think there is one set left there,others had the 17cl14vn's on them paid $20 each.
