tire size and......
o.k i have the stock fr. 205x55 16 bridgestones and they have 85% tread left.....
what do you think about mis-matching tires?
i.e. I need new rears, and i am thinking of running the Hankooks r-sz z212's 245x45 16
or should i replace the fronts also.....
and, if i do can i run a wider tire i.e. 215x45 or 225x50 on the 6.5" rim?
i am sure i can run the 215's but what about the 225's
the 225's have a closer overall diameter to 205 55's
any thoughts welcome
TIA
I'd def. recommend running the same tires on front and back.
The Hankooks aren't going to do too well in the rain (if the S is your DD, that should be a concern). Growing up in NC, I know how the rains can be. I really liked the RE750's I had, which performed well in the dry and also in the rain. Tread life is about twice that of the Hankook's, also. (based on experience, NOT treadwear rating).
I've heard people recommend 245's in the back and 215's on the front. If you wanted to, 225's on the front probably will fit. I fit 215 Azenis on a 6" wheel, so on a 6.5, 225 would probably work. It might numb up the steering a bit, though.

numbing up the steering is exactly what an overly-wide tire will do on the steering wheels of a car. I would run matched tires as well, but since they wear at such different intervals you might be ok buying rears now with the intention to buy the matching fronts...the best thing to do is find a tire you really love and run it from now on, that way even if you nreplace rears or fronts you're on the same tires...
