Default Apexi V-AFC for my D16Y8?

The previous owner of the CRX I currently own used to have an Apexi V-AFC controller to operate the engagement of vtec on the D16Y8. Since i've had the car, the controller was removed and I never felt as though I needed it untill now...

I haven't really heard/felt vtec engage in a SOHC motor before, and was recently reving the motor past 5800 rpm to experiment (Don't know why reved it up to that, figured I would hear/feel vtec change anywhere beyone that point) and didn't notice a single thing as far as drastic changes go.

My question is, Do I NEED this Apexi V-AFC controller to engage the vtec on my D16Y8 or can I possibly obtain an ecu that'll handle things for me? Maybe its my solenoid? VSS?

i believe you are looking for a p28 ecu. i think the v-afc is a bad idea to run also, especially if you are just using a sohc non-vtec ecu. with real vtec, the fuel maps are tuned for vtec, while with a v-afc you are getting vtec to engage but the fuel maps dont compensate for the extra need created by vtec. its not good for your engine is the moral of the story.
