Default project Lsvtec ?uestion

so i blew my pistons on my b18a1 block... I have a jdm b16 a2 head that has a port N polish skunk 2 cam/gears/Itr manifold and some retainres...i want to build a LS vtec... what should i do to the block to make high compression?
well actually im not sure if i have skunk 2 cam gears. some guys just hooked me up with the head and didnt tell me what he had.. it has aftermarket retainers bc i can see them.. but how can you tell if you have aftermarket cams and vaulve springs??

what kind of pistons should i get? b16, ctr, itr??
should i sleeve my block?
what should i do to the block?
what kind of head gasket do i use

kinda a low budget.. under 500 plz

=depending on what compression you want to run and the ammount of tunning you can be safe and I belive you can run p30 pistons to have a good setup
-Why would you sleeve your block?
-Hone the block thats about it

also take appart the head and check the valves/retainers for any markings that would lead to them being aftermarket

I'll take a stab at this since I've done this twice.
$500 bucks...well...

B16A pistons on those rods (as long as B18B and B18A rods are the same length) Will give you 11.63:1 compression.
And B18C5 pistons will yeald 11.3:1 compression.
I'm not sure of B16B pistons, I haven't used them.
No need to sleeve, besides you don't have the money.
That's where my knowlege ends...

i believe pr3 pistons will give him 11.5 with a p72 head..since his is b16 it will look more like 11.2 ......and as far as b16b pistons on those ls rods will give him 12.0

That's pretty good...11.2 compression isn't too bad

Sorry got confused.

Meant P30 pistons bring it to around 11.2/.5 - 1 compression

ARP connecting rod bolts -70
ARP head studs -70 (optional)
Balance the LS crank -175
micropolish is optional -40
B16 rods are too short, keep the LS. More work has to be done to use vtec rods, different bearings.
Tap block for vtec/vtec line -200
P30 pistons -200

A couple hundred more and youll be able to rev higher, take advantage of all motor set-ups.

go with p30's or pr3's, as for the rods if they are cheaper then what it would cost to have your ls rod shot peened, then i would say get them if not then don't waste your money on rods that are that are heavier then stock one's

you can use pct pistons (ctr) but ur gonna have 12.3 compression!.........just go with pr3 or p30.... pr3(usdm b16) will give 11.6 while p30(jdm b16) will give you 11.8... use oem head gasket...
