need answer asap. my crankshaft pulley is right on tdc but my camshaft gears are a little off??????
hey, im putting my freshley built head on my car, im tryin to put everything at TDC and the crankshaft pulley is on tdc and the cam gears are both in the right position, both the up arrows on them are up but the cam gears either are pointing slightly back towards the firewall or slightly forward towards head light. the difference is less than a tooth apart so i can either have the crankshaft pulley right on tdc and have both cam gears at a slight tilt forward towards headlights or crankshaft pulley right on tdc with cam gears at a slight tilt back towards firewall. its like this even though this is exagerated ( the real tilt is probably only a degree or so) . these are the up marks on the cam gears while crankshaft pulley is at tdc..........either / / pointing back towards the firewall or like \ \ pointing forward towards head lights, or i can make them like / \ but this is incorrect cuase then both cam gears will be a tooth apart from each other. please help me, i need to finish this project tonight. thanks
Set the crank to TDC then install the camshafts to the closest TDC you can get then adjust it with your adjustable cam gear and timing gun

That's what I do
The key is to make sure the crank is at TDC, the camshaft marks can be compensated through the use of the timing gun and adjusting the distributor for advance or retard.

hey, thanks for the replies. i found out what my problem was. i didnt tighten the camshafts down to the head all the way so they were actualy tilted up a bit and not flush with their mounting surface. so the cam gear was actualy tilted and a little off but now i got it squared away and everything lines up perfectly at tdc. thanks+
