A little OT, just drove the Acura RSX with tiptronic
Could become the trans of choice for the rich and lazy heh heh... I took the R into the dealer for a service ( We have great dealers out here on the upper west coast )
and they gave me a RSX service loaner.. only 2k on it so still very new...
This thing has a 5 speed auto for crying out loud ( I still remember my first Honda two speed auto, boy could you wind that thing out!! )
The kind of neat part was the select shift manual on the floor... worked very well. shifted when you hit it with no muss no fuss. The motor is not a vtec unit, but it still scoots along at a rabid pace none the less.. Might be a nice little car for the wife ( when she's a hundred and ten and blind )..Ha ha
Still, the car handled well enough that I think it could be a serious contender with the right parts, and it was down right roomy compared to my little Type R..
I know.. enough... I'll stop now..

Yes it is. QUOTE
Are you sure it's vtec? This is a base RSX, not an S (which is ivtec )
It never hit a power curve that I could tell... And I put 100 kms on it...
And I know tiptronic was German... I just didn't know what Acura called it, and I didn't want any one wondering what I was talking about..
Anyway who really cares, It's just a RSX.. It was something diferent to experience, that's all.
I promise it will never happen again...
( Lotus owners don't bite nearly as hard as you guys )

So is it the same system as on a cl-s (is that the prelude and accord one?) or do the 4th gen's have a new deal?

Okay, coming from an RSX owner:
All RSXs are DOHC iVTEC. The Type-S has a couple different things such as a short-run intake manifold, higher compression, etc. The SportShift transmission is the same basic type unit that's in the CL-S and Prelude. The new Si motor is the same as in the base RSX, but with a different intake manifold, exhaust diameter, etc. It doesn't make quite as much torque, but has a much shorter final drive, which I am looking into swapping into my RSX-S. I've never driven a base RSX, so I can't answer to the cam changeover, but I know that at 5700rpm, my motor starts screaming. The dyno chart literally takes off at that point.

Base RSX engine doesn't have a cam changeover. It's DOHC, but it goes from 3-4 valve operation as a part of it's VTEC, like the accord, and newer civics.
