Ls rods??? Strong enough for all motor set up???
Im building a Lsvtec and wondering if the ls rods are going to be strong enough to hold up all motor hp my goal is 200 wheel horsepower
Will they work i believe i should be safe up to 300hp but not sure
Thanks

With an LS/V set up, I would always run upgraded rod bolts, as the stock bolts tend to stretch and become brittle at higher rpm.
you could always get the rods shot-peened and/or cryo treated.....
and yes the rod bolts are weak. but many 200+ motors use the stock rods without fault

Yes. I've had a few friends running them on their LS/V's w/out issues, making over 200whp.

i have the stock ls rods with the arp rod bolts and the rods are notched for the narrower gsr/itr rod bearings.
i make 198whp 151tq reving to 8k rpm all day ever day. almost 2 years old and 10k miles of real hard driving and i have no problems so far
make sure you have a machine shop resize the rods for the new rod bolts.

which would be better for ls vtec ctr pistons on ls rods or ctr pistons on gsr rods? what are the differences between the two (ls and gsr rods)?

gsr rods (while more thin) are also shorter than the LS rods... by using the gsr rods you would actually de-stroke the motor somewhat which is against the whole purpose of why most ppl are doing an ls-vtec in the first place

True. Stock LS rods I believe are rated for 250 hp, thats why many SOHC guys upgrade to them. Also if you are to shot peen and cryo-treat them, they will be even stronger.
ARP rod bolts are life savers for LS rods. As Rodrez said they are the weak link of the LS bottom end. Besides it'll be the best $35 you ever spent.

ya ls rods will be fine I run them and have had no prolems with the exception of a sun rod bearing due to me being a cheap A$$ and not doing the arp rod bolts def get them I did the secound time I have heard of guys running on boost stock rods up to like 400hp or something like that.
cool thanks for the info i've been trying to find out for a fews days now and i could not find a thread that could answer my question

I run my mild built LS/V with stock rods but with arp rod bolts...it's seen 8500 a few times, never a hiccup
