Any Honda Interceptor owners here? Speak!
I saw an 86 Interceptor 500 today and I like what I'm seeing/reading. I might make the drive to go see it tomorrow. Is there anything specific I should look for with Interceptors? How easy are they to work on / find parts for?
you should try http://www.vfrdiscussion.com
if it is in good shape, and a good price i would scoop it up. the V-4 is a pretty bullet-proof engine, the early ones had some cam problems, not sure if this is the one of the years that was affected. it was not that big of an issue to begin with. if it has been sitting long, it may need some carb work, a good cleaning should do it. and depending on the tire size you may have issues finding sticky tires for it. pretty much all hondas, and esp. the old ones have crappy charging systems, so the rectifier/regulator is something that gets changed often on pretty much all VF/VFRs
other than that, i would pick it up if its in good shape!

An 86 interceptor is mos def a good buy! Theres nothing like the v4..but what he said...they did have cam problems so you hafta make sure it was well taken care of. Great bikes...just wish i could find one in chicago!

There are issues were with the VF. It is a bitch to work on the carbs as its all a bit tight. The silencer box will be shot by this age and it will prolly have a Kerker or something else 4-1 fitted. The cams could be shot although they are not as bad as the 750 they are not good. However they are probably one of the greatest all rounders ever made. Walk away if it 'ticks' on the overun, if it hasnt got a full service history or looks like the owner doesnt know what it is. BTW a std CBR from 87 will rape it on everything apart from character.
