Burning oil, did my homework and still clueless.
I've been trying to help my buddy's mom who has a 95 Odyssey (which before someone bust my chops it has an F22B2 engine like the Accord). She is getting bad gas mileage and burning a quart of oil a week.
I was convinced I was gonna find low compression but all the cylinders were around 200-205 psi like they should be. When I checked the spark plugs there was oil on them, but it appeared to be from a leaky valve cover gasket. The PCV valve didn't click when I checked it, but I can't imagine it burning a quart a week as a result! It doesn't have a check engine light but when I pulled a plug wire to force a code it still didn't pop up (it didn't cross my mind at the time to check the bulb). The exhaust tip clearly shows excess carbon. I should also mention the car does not leak a drop. I'm clueless here, anything you can offer would help.

She has...I wouldn't take my car there but she's had one or two places try to figure it out.

Excessive fuel (as indicated by poor fuel economy, sooted plugs and exhaust) can cause accellerated oil consumption several ways.
1) excessive fuel washes lubricant from cylinder walls and causes accellerated ring wear and cylinder taper.
2) excessive fuel washes past rings diluting the crankcase oil causing burn off because of thinning.
Oil burning can also be caused by several additional factors:
1) Broken, or stuck oil control rings
2) Worn valve guides
3) Flooded valve guides (oil accumulates under valve cover, overcoming the valve stem seals because oil return passages have become clogged with oil sludge (as evidenced by non-rattling pcv valve)
'mo stuff as I think of it
