next HPDE?
If you thought the drive to VIR was "taxing", the drive to CMP will "bankrupt" you. It takes me about 9 hours. I have to take the day before and the day after the event as travel days.
well then...Fuq Dat. I have heard CMP isn't exactly fun anyways.
How about the next event at my "home tracks" - VIR and Summit?

Okay, does anyone have an idea what this is? There's a Solo I scheduled for the South Course and a "Milton Hilton Hustle Driver's School" on the North Course at VIR during a weekend over the summer. Apparently this is run by NCR-SCCA. Now... is this a HPDE like those run by NASA/Speedtrial/Car Guys etc. or is this a competition school? Anyone have any idea who's instructing at this school? Any other info ie price/tracktime/instruction etc? Bueller? anyone?

After a weekend as amazing as this past one, let it be known here first that I'm putting together another VIR full course event ASAP. It might not be a Speedtrial event and it might be on a Friday, but it will involve many of the usual folks I'm sure. You'll see details here first.

Jon
just back from VIR, details shortly
HEY Jon~
I think that the next one should be in the summer because Chris said he was going to let anyone drive is WRX...you know to make sure its worthy enough to be out there...oh yeah...Jon the Track is nothin like a big Drag strip...its better...

CMP does most definitely *not* suck. Those who think so must be spoiled by VIR. VIR caliber tracks are few and far between. CMP is a fun, challenging course that is a hoot to drive, and it takes a lot of skill to drive it well. The kink (turn 10) will get the adrenaline pumping, and separate the boys from the men. (and I mean that as gender inspecific as I can
) Bring brakes, though.

I would certainly recommend going if you've never been, if anything just to get the experience of a new track. But if I didn't live within 3 hours of it, I wouldn't be a regular visitor.
Not only does CMP not suck - you can't do a series of HPDE without hitting the fine town of Kershaw, SC. Those of you who have stayed at the Executive Inn will know exactly what I'm talking about. For the actual track, it is very challenging - especially getting turn 8 down so you can actually get speed down the back straight. Turns 11-14 will test your patience as well as your rev limiter and is alot of fun when you get it right. See the following - http://www.cmpracetrack.com/ The facilities aren't quite as nice as VIR, but as someone mentioned earlier, it is very easy to get spoiled by VIR.
CMP is a great place to teach and to be taught. The 11-14 stuff that people seem to hate is great for learning a bunch of stuff...
- "Conserving the car." As in, making sure the brakes don't get fried in a single session.
- Trailbraking. If you overdo it, you're going slow and there's nothing to hit.
- Vision. That part is flat as a pancake. Thereby making it easy for me to tell a student to "look at THAT"
- Smoothness. If you're smooth in this part, you can be smooth anywhere.
Plus you've got turn 8, which Blk&Tan mentioned, one of my favorite corners anywhere.
--Karl, who has been to CMP probably 6 times now...
