Car is still shaking!!!!
First of all I have read through all of the results for "shakes" in the Accord forum. To no avail. So please instead of telling me to search. Give me some feedback of what else this could be.
Ok, I have posted on here before about this same problem with my girlfriends '97 Accord EX coupe. The front of the car shakes terribly either @ high speed or when slowing from speeds over 45 mph. Let me tell you all that I have done so far. To eliminate any of the common sources of this problem.
-New Brembo blanks
-New EBC Greenstuff pads
-4 new tires mounted & balanced
I have yet to get an allignment, but the shop that installed the tires said it wouldn't be the cause of this shaking. Immediately after installing the rotors. The shaking subsided temporarily. Not all together, but it wasn't as intense for a few weeks. I was thinking that maybe it has something to do with the tie rods. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Keith

The outer tie rod shaft?

The bearings were checked for play when I had the rotors pressed on. They are fine. She has stock alloys on it, and there are no visible flaws.
I appreciate the input guys. Keep it comming.
Does anyone have any experience with before & after results of tie rod replacement?

I helped do a set on a 94 Civic. The car couldn't hold an alignment for more than 2 weeks. It pulled really bad but no problems with shaking. I seriously doubt that this could be your problem, but if you need to get some I have a set for sale.
Could it have something to do with the ball joints? I'm guessing @ this point. I think I may have to break down and take it to a mechanic.

Shakes in the steering wheel like mad? What is high speed, 65? 80?
Jack it up and grab-shake the wheel on each side, do you feel any play?
I assume you've tried a search for "vibration"?
I hate these problems, don't you!?!?

check out your lower ball joints and if they are not HONDA joints I would replace them with Honda ones. I had a lower joint fail and it caused the car to shake like you mention.
let me see if i got this ,, it shakes both at hwy speed while just driving at a steady speed and also shakes while applying brakes slowing down from above 45 ???
did u evewr chk to see if it is coming from the back rotors ???
as for the hwy speed shaking (while not braking )i would make sure my wheels are balanced.. if u are sure they are, then i agree with the guys here ,, loose suspension parts ,,,,,tie rods. tie rod ends, ball joints, loose p/s rack,
was the shaking happening before new tires mounted and balanced?? before new rotors??

I also own a 90 Honda Accord. We've replaced the motor mounts, tires, got an alignment and all types of stuff. It doesn't shake while driving...it shakes while stopped at a stop sign or red light like crazy. Please tell me what else could it be.
raise the front and check for play at tires for joints. If not, another thing I don't think you mentioned is if you have already checked for the worn shocks. they make the wheels bounce like crazy. Try it!
for some reason, when i had my blank brembos installed with axis ceramics it started to shake also.....I pulled off the pads and noticed my brakes weren't catching, but "rocking up" into little rocks from brake pads i assume, I since turned my rotors and went back to organic pads....no problems since.
sorry guys, I have been busy with work & haven't had a chance to respond.

Checked ball joints & everything looks like factory original from '97.

High speed is highway speeds 60-85. It's obviously more noticable the higher you go. No, I haven't checked the back rotors recently. Yes, it was shaking before the tires & brakes. Like I said, it seems to have subsided for a short period of time, but has come back stronger than ever.

I would check for a dead plug/wire</TD></TR></TABLE>
The car runs/idles fine. It also recently passed MD emissions test. No codes!
My plans are to have the wheels/tires rebalanced & rotated. While they have the car in the air, I will inspect all 4 rotors to see if I notice any problems. If that doesn't help, It's going to the shop for them to figure out. This is my girls car & I just don't have the time to mess with it any more right now.
Thanks for all of your suggestions & help. I will give you all an update as soon as I figure it out.
Thanks

the tie rods could be the problem. they shake tremendousy when they're bad, but only when your taking long sweeping turns at highway speeds. it shouldnt happen while driving strait though.
Alright in the shop that i work in we see this all the time... we do a brake job and then they come back that same day or next day complaining of shaking..... then we would have to do warranty work..... (shitty) so we discovered that the rotors were the culprit.... they sit on the stock shelves for so long that they get warped... so now we turn all our rotors before we put them on....

Is that right? You have just enlightened me. What would cause them to warp on the shelf before any heat or abuse takes effect on them? When you started turning them prior to install. Did the customer complains stop? Do the rotors have to come off to be turned? Or do some shops have tools to turn them while on the car?

It depends on how the parts dept store the rotors... i believe they're supposed to be stored flat on the shelf so that they won't warp over time.
some stores (cough *pepboys* cough) @ one time store the rotors/drums like books on the shelf...
it's easy to check for runout before you condemn the rotors w/ a dial gauge. I guess @ jagged's shop, it should be standard procedure to check the newly installed rotors before leaving the shop to prevent customer comebacks

Well i'm not sure how they are stored at places like bumper to bumper but yes after we started turning the rotors before we even mounted them on the car the complaints stopped.... now the only complaints we have are the pads making noise.... not sure how they warp on the shelves.....

hehehe, pads don't warp on the shelves, making the noise... it's the makeup of the pad material that does it, along w/ other crap.
or was that sarcasm? the forum should have tags like this: [SARCASM] xxxxxtestingxxxxxx[/SARCASM]

that wasn't meant as the pads warping on the shelves... that was supposed to be not sure how the rotors warp on the shelves and now our only complaint is the pads making noise....
