I 'm getting ready to replace my DC 4-2-1 header with a JDM ITR 4-1 header that has the 2.5" collector and also get a 2.5" Carsound CAT for my '99 GSR.
All of the exhausts I looked at, are either 2.25" or 3". Do I have to get a 2.5" custom exhaust made, or is there a company out there that sells a decent 2.5" one with few or no bends? I don't want to go 3" because my car only has some basic bolt-ons and a lighter flywheel, no boost.
What do you guys use for 2.5" exhaust? I 'm sure people out there have this setup.
Also how long does the Carsound CAT have to be? I believe the JDM 4-1 header is longer than the GSR one, so I think I need to get the 13" one. Is this correct?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I did KTeller piping kit and a Apexi Universal in black...different, and quite cost effective.

So do you guys like your setup? The JDM ITR 4-1 with 2.5 cat and 2.5" exhaust?
Would you recommend your exhaust or go with something else if you had to do it all over again?
Is the T1R or HKS stainless steel?
The DC 4-2-1 header I have right now gave me an extra ~5whp (also have an AEM CAI). We took 2 baseline runs with stock header, stock cat and exhaust, then 2 more with the DC 4-2-1 and stock cat and stock exhaust. 5.3whp gain after advancing the timing to 18deg (4whp without advacing the timing). How much whp do you think I 'll gain with the JDM 4-1 header and 2.5" piping all the way through? Or should I say is it worth going up to 2.5" from 2.25" with a 158whp car?

60mm is 2.36" isn't it? I want a true 2.5" exhuast.
I 'll probably go with Kteller but their Integra Stainless 2.5" custom pipe is $265 plus $200+ for a decent SS muffler is $465 (+ship). That's about the same price of a full catback system. I really don't see the cost savings there.

well, full 2.5in catback exhausts are not cheap. If you are worried about saving money, go with the Kteller + muffler. A T1R is over $600 not including shipping, but it is well priced for such a nice system.

thanks guys.
Yes, that's exactly it. It doesn't make sense to go 2.5 - 2.5 - 2.36". Defeats the purpose. I have to check out the T1R catback system. Didn't know anything about it before today.. I have received some e-mails that Kteller makes good HP so that's still one of my top choices right now.
Will the T1R catback bolt right up with the JDM ITR 4-1 header and a 13" Carsound CAT, without having to add any fab piping to the CAT?

Going from 2.5 to 2.36 really won't kill the flow. But it will help exhaust gas velocity. There's a reason why all the overpriced JDM headers are 2.5 and all the overpriced JDM exhausts are 2.36.

it sounds like you just want to be able to SAY you have a 2.5 inch exhaust.

From experience, i like u have the same setup. 00 Gs-R with T1R, JDM 4-1 ITR Header, with an SMSP cat. I believe the cat he sent me was a 17" cat, not a 13". if u have any further questions, pm me or something

thanks Sukii I 'll take you up on that.
I have another question for all the T1R owners. Does T1R only make 1 exhaust for the DC2 in 2.5"? Namely 1 length fits all? I saw some very impressive dynos with the T1R so I 'll be getting this exhaust for sure, if I can find it.

I 've been definitely thinking about a straight pipe too since my county (NY) doesn't have emissions inspection but there 's talk that we might have it in '06. Aren't Kteller's test pipes like $20-30?
What happens with the O2 sensors? On my '99 GSR both of them are on the CAT. Does the DC JDM 4-1 header come with an O2 bung on it since it is meant for the Type-R? What do I do with my O2 sensors if I have a straight pipe? Won't my ECU be throwing codes like crazy? What's the workaround?
