Default Will my wheel fall off?!?

Hey guys,

I think i have had a bad wheel bearing for some time. My rear left wheel has been humming for a while. I would say about a month or two. What i am wondering is will the bearing have a catastrophic failure, or just kind of grind to a halt? I don't want to pull up to a stopsign and have my wheel rool right past me!!

Thanx

I don't think a bad wheel bearing is going to cause your wheel to actually fall off. I'd get it fixed as soon as possible if I were you though.

Mo the wheels will not fall off, my girlfriend just got hers changed, and she was riding on a bad one for like 8 months. It will rust the inside and eventually grind away the bearings themselves. get it changed. new bearings and a new hub is like 60-80 dollars, and like 20 to press them in.

The longer you wait, the more damage will be done. If you drive it long enough, your tires could wear irregularly, the bearing race could sieze/weld itself to the spindle, etc. However, I really doubt the wheel will fall off. Not anytime soon.

Get an entire hub from a junkyard for $40 and put it on yourself. Its not hard.

wheel won't fall off.. i rode on my bad bearings for about a year... better to get it fixed now than later though because you will suffer from bad handling and tire wear.

when i was like 16 my girlfriend dumped me, so to cheer me up my friends took me out and we drove liek 10127850 miles into the middle of no where. So we were sitting in this parking lot and this dude comes up and asks to use one of our cell phones. His wheel bearing was bad and his wheel fell off. He had to spend the night in his car in the middle of no where. thats my story.

He was more than likely retarded and didn't know why his wheel fell off, but in an effort to save his manhood he made some **** up on the fly so you guys wouldn't laugh at him.

I still highly doubt your wheel can actually fall off from a bad wheel bearing.

how do you know if you have a bad bearing?

my left wheel keeps making some metal grinding noise/popping noise every time i hit a small dip or crack.

i know its not the axle.

Jack up your car, and take the wheel you believe is the one with the problem, and jiggle it around, if you hear noise or feel alot of play, then its the wheel bearing.
