Default My experience with Rocket M22's NO NO NO!!!!

*edit* Situation is getting handled greatly. Please don't just come in and look at the pictures and then bash on RM cams, or products. If you want the full situation read all the post. You sell so many you're bound to hav a bad one. **** happens.

So i was on my to Honda Day at Englishtown, and on the straight away before the gates to enter the track, i shifted from 1st to second at about 5800rpm's and then my car suddenly just dies. Try starting no cranky. Pull over, still nothing, friends and I pull off valve cover, crank it over Intake Cam ONLY turning. Exhaust Cam Cracked into 3 pieces SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be Contacting Robert ASAP. Hopefully he'll be reasonable, and refund me.

Just my rant

I run the RM cams with no problems..

no saying this was your fault..but rather you should have contacted rocket first.he is very reasonable and will take care of you..

OH just a FYI..RM has lifetime warranty on cams/valve train when purchased and used together..

Wow.....a cam actually snapped to peices? That is CRAZY. I would be so angry that its ridiculous. I've heard nothing but good stuff about RM products.....and to be honest seeing a cam cracked like that I can only think of a few things it could be.

1. Bad grind.
2. HORRIBLE metal used as a core.

If the springs were too tight you would have noticed problems way way way before teh cam cracked. Same with installation.

IMHO this is all in the manufacture of the cam. There is NO way that a bad install could result in a cam cracking in not one, but 3 seperate places.

Doesn't rocket use crower cores? And doesn't crower cams break just like that? wow, i never would of expected this from RM. Hopefully he'll take care of it.

Ummm....so basically you are saying that if the customer purchased a set and got the "older cores" then it was KNOWN by Rocket and his retailers that there were breakage problems assosciated with that batch? WHy on EARTH were the cams sold to customers and LEGALLY there is no basis to (at bare minimum) deny a refund for the cost of the cams and springs.

Not trying to be a dick....I've heard nothing other than sparkling reviews of rocket up until this point. I'm just wondering why you pretty much told us that the older rocket cams were KNOWN by both retailer and manufacturer to have INFERIOR cores that could break.....yet warranty claims are beign denied?

Well I am not saying that aftermarket cams NEVER fail.....but if it was KNOWN that the older cams had issues with teh cores then they should have been taken off the shelves as soon as Rocket started hearing about this. Why was a product with known problems still sold to a customer? I think that is the REAL issue....not whether or not the RM cams are good stuff. Hell lots of people have had GREAT luck with rocket stuff. You can't deny that the cams make power.

I don't really think there is much to say on this subject until the customer talks to Rocket .

I honestly think that the bare minimum should be a full refund for the camshaft itself....or a brand new one. A camshaft snapping like that is a pretty big deal IMO.

If he gets a refund on the cam/springs then there is really no reason to complain. That is what rocket would be required to do in the eyes of the law if the product was KNOWN to have a possiblity of being defective.

Os for the tow/track fee and other parts being damaged....well, it is kind of ridiculous to assume that anythign other than teh parts actually purchased from rocket will be covered. A manufacturer CANNOT garauntee the quality of parts not sold by himself. A good analogy is if I bought tires from someplace like Big O, and they leaked....then I went in to request that my power doors be replaced as well. See what I am saying? Bottom line is that you run the risk of losing alot of money in this game....and thats just how **** goes sometimes.

what a crazy *** day, figures it HAD to happen right on the road to get it

and by the way, i'm pretty sure he wants a full refund on the cams, he no longer wants to run them because new cams were purchased in this emergecy. the broken m22 also damaged the head somewhat when it tried to back out. tow truck driver took ******* forever

Sorry to hear about you motor. Unfortunately this is not the first set of RM cams I've seen broken, a fellow racer of mine broke his M24X's. Rocket took care of him (I don't know all the details) but his motor was toast. I actually like RM and feel they make great products (I'm running their valvetrain), it just sucks when something like a cam breaks because it can really create a lot of damage. It's impossible to find a company that has never had a product fail but hopefully they are keep to a minimum.
