performance auto trans
Im new to hondas and have only owned american cars before. But with the riseing gas prices I have been thinking about building a honda. I would like to put in a built allmotor or turbo engine so its not so slow. I will not be racing it that much, it will be a daily driver that I might beat on a little from time to time. But I need an automatic trans because of a bad knee, I would rather have an 5 speed but I could not drive a mile with out alot of pain. So my question is are there any performance parts for auto trannys? Like a chevy 350 trans can be built to out perform a 4 speed because of the positive hard shifts that are a result of kevlar bands and valve body modifications . I know every quick honda I have ever seen has a 5 speed, but you would think someone would have built up a auto. Even if it is built for the track but is mildly streetable I would be happy. So are there any hondas out there that are quick and have a auto? I would be willing to pay more for one that can handle power and wont wear out that fast. Any links or web addresses for parts or already built trannys would be helpful.
Upgraded TQ converters and clutch packs can be put in but once you make any kind of decent power they fail also. The Honda and most other FWD transaxles are not made to handle the power people can put to them and as of now there is no company that makes one close to being bulletproof. A auto may be easier for racing but when they have a very strong 5 speed that can take 1000whp stock it's almost easier to just run a stick.
I really don't think there is a auto trans in the Honda line that will hold too
awful much power.
If you want a small car with a auto and you can deal with a Neon it might be
a better choise. Done right the 3 speed 413 (based off the 904) will hold
400 hp for a long long time.

What tranny is in your car steve? I've got a buddy trying to build an AT neon to hold some power. Thanks.

I use the same trans that comes in the Neon stock. For 400 hp you really
don't need to do too awful much to make it hold up. A good rebuild with
perfomance clutch packs from Alto, a manual valvebody and a good converter
is all you really need.
Once the power goes up you need to do a good bit more....

Ok i know this may cause some emotional stur up but how about building a nice K20 turbo and adapting the GM Hydromatic automatic tranny? They seem to have built these to take a hell of a lot of power without failing. That would be a really strong street car. I too would love to see an all honda automatic power-plant but no one is really putting the R&D into them.

There are a few co's doing the same for the Chysler trans as well. Funny though,
if you ask them who is running one that is makeing any kind of power they
really can't answer. So just how "race" is it if nobody has ever tested one....

Are you looking for FWD? Maybe look into s2000, RWD and i'm sure you could adapt a well built auto to that. Sell the s2k stock trans and that should pay for a built domestic rwd tranny. Maybe i'm nuts but its a thought.
