Default A/C Questions in a 97 accord!

Hello all. I sincerely thank everyone who's helped me with replies on all my other threads. It helped me solve a lot of problems. Anyways, i have another dilemma now. I have a 97 accord and im wondering what can i do to check why my a/c does not work? It blows warm. I hear people telling me to check "hoses", etc. or "refill freon" etc. what is it though? what makes it this way? and does it have anything to do with the condenser? hoses? freon refill? What way is there to recharge it? any tutorials online? anyways, thanks again people.

Honestly the best thing to do is to take it to a local a/c shop. Most of them will diagnose the problem for free, & you can decide what to do from there. I messed with my a/c lines once thinking the were empty... biiig mistake Sorry i cant help you further.

well, an ac system has hoses and houses freon, your specific cars, and all cars after a certian year contain R134A, its a refrigerant, in its actual state, refrigerant doesnt waste, I mean, when was the last time that you refilled the refrigerant on your fridge or your home AC system? The reason why ours do waste is because of the extreme temperature conditions that exist in our engine bays. It goes from cold to hot from cold to hot, from cold to hot and the refrigenrant can only take so much punishment. a lesson in freon :D

but on why your AC system is bad, I wouldnt be able to directly tell you, but like the person on top of me said, take it to a shop so they can diagnose it and we'll work from there and tell you exactly why things happened with the components in question.

This is the easiest way to determine what is wrong with your A/C

Start car and turn A/C on and see if you hear the a/c compressor kicking on and off. If it does then the most likely culprit is your car is low on r134a. At this point I would have the system tested to see where it is leaking from, have it repaired and then refill. I have a 1994 accord and I have to add a can about every 4 years.

IF your compressor is not kicking in then you have a failure somewhere else and you can check things like wiring and relays

remove the cap from the high pressure hose, get a small scrwdriver , push down on valve and see if any freon comes out and ....if none or very low pressure u r low on freon evacuate and recharge a/c .......
if u can feel a good blast ..put a/c on chk if both fans work if not chk the fuses if blown a/c wil not work underhood fuse box condensor and cooling fan fuses... if fuses ok chk for power at red wire at compressor if u got power u got a bad a/c coil...if no power like it was said it could be relay. wiring. ,,,,,,if u r not very mechanically inclined able to trouble shoot electrical then i would take car to shop if u are post here ur results and i will walk u through it ,,but first chk to make sure u got freon
