suzuki katana 600.... good? bad?
i was just wondering what u guys think of this bike (performance, handling, etc..) my neighbor is selling his for $3600, its a 2003 with only 2149 miles. do u guys think this is a good deal or no?? the bike has never been dropped and it has no dents or scratches.
for your first bike?
pros:
not much power, forgiving bike
comfortable with good wind protection
will run for ever, mechaniclly bulletproof
cons:
heavy, slow, outdated
kinda the "laughing stock" in the sport bike world
for a first bike it would be good, but i bet you would want to get rid of it pretty quick if you really get into bikes.

DON'T GET IT!..I almost made the same mistake...just get a super sport bike and do it right the first time...you'll regret waisting your money if you don't
I almost got a 2004 Katana 750 because it had a more comfortable seat for me and the passenger. I'm glad I didn't though because everyone says that it's too heavy and slow. And it's a lot bigger than the Gixxer. It almost feels like your sitting on a busa.
it's definatly a good first bike ... but personally, i would never think about getting one, even if i was **** faced drunk ... only because, in my opinion, they're ugly as sin.
For a good sport-tour type bike, and as a good starter or even 2nd bike, look into the Yamaha YZF600. You can probably find one around the same price, and they look way sportier.
Also mid 90's CBR's or FZR's are good choices, and can be had for the same price.

its a good first bike, but you will get bored. it would be better if you could borrow the bike from you neighbor for a bit, then after you get the feel of it buy a different bike

a NICE one? i doubt it.

If you have the cash, I would say go for it. It will get boring rather quick so 6 months from now when you are comfortable on two wheels and want something faster/lighter, you can sell it for pretty much no loss and get something else.
Good starter bike. Very easy on insurance since it is considered a sport-tourin instead of a supersport. Friend had one in 11th grade way back and liked it very much, as it is a very forgiving bike. However he did eventually want more.
